So.

First I'd like to take note that all the premier backs have multiple games with 28-32 carries. Ronnie has 1 ! Oh and it just so happens it was his best outing with 157 yards.

Second, look at how many games these backs are given the carries. Ronnie only got that many carries in 6 games. Less than anyone on this list. And the only two backs who are close to that few many carries split carries. Travis Henry got 18+ carries 10 times. LT got 18+ carries 13 times! Steven Jackson had 18+ carries in 15 of the 16 games he played last year!!!!! Ronnie, 6 times! Its more than obvious to me that Ronnie has the skills to be a top back, and he HAS proven it. Give him the carries regardless of our C-rate offensive line. Just give him the carries.

In his two years in the league he's had 18+ carries 9 times. Our record in these games 6-3. The three losses you ask?

22/127 yds ( 17-20 @ NYJ)
18/110 yds ( 10-17 @ NYJ)
21/115 yds ( 22-27 @ IND) *end of season meaningless game

I'll take Ronnie Brown w/ 18+ carries and see what kind of team we suddenly have on both sides of the ball.

Very nice research. It is something many of us already knew. Give Ronnie the ball and watch him work.

Hopefully Cameron doesn't have some preconceived notion of how many carries Ronnie should get per game.

The one Jets game losse was 10-13. Maybe we would have won that game if he got an extra few carries...:D

People use stats too often to try to prove a point, and most of the time they are meaningless, as stats can be used to prove ANY point one way or the other... and the number of carries in relation to a RB's success is one of the most overused and meaningless stats in football, in my opinion.

Is it the number of carries that determines a RB's success?? or is it a RB's success that determines the number of carries??

Personally I think it is more the latter.

If a RB is not having success, that leads to more third and longs, and more stalled drives... which mean the team ends up playing from behind and forcing the ball into the hands of a RB that is not having success would be sure-fire suicide.

On the other hand if a RB IS having success, you keep giving him the ball, it eats the clock, gains you yards, and has less of a chance of a disastrous play as compared to a passing play.

With more carries, he's a top back in the league. And that's with one of the worst offensive lines. So, what happens if we give him more carries, a better line, and better QB play?

I guess next, your gonna say," The running back determines the success of the offensive line."

I agree that stats aren't the end all to questions to a players ability. But, if you actually watched a game or two, you would know that Ronnie Brown was and probably still is the best offensive player on our team. The O-Line sucked it up real bad, I would have liked to shoot our QB's in the head. And ......is it illegal to put glue on our recievers hands? Cause they needed it!!! Ronnie put up great numbers considering what he had to work with.
Now, here's a good question for you. Do you think this years offensive line will be better? Will our QB play be better? Is thier more weapons in the recieving core? If you can answer yes to just one of those questions. Then you have to believe Ronnie will have his best season to date. Give him the ball more, and you'll see one of the best running backs in football.

I agree stats don't tell the whole story, but most we had many games where we were running well, or at least well enough to keep pounding, but we would get down a touchdown or even field goal and freak out and give up on the running game.

Oh and Ronnie wasn't the one ruining most drives for us. It was something like:

1st down flea flicker to Ronnie back to Harrington, who sees nothing open so throws the ball away (then feels proud of himself because he didn't throw an int)

2nd down, Ronnie off the right side for 4-5 yards

3rd down, incomplete

All excellent points. For some insane reason, Mularkey made Joey the centerpiece of the offense. Well Joey's gone and Mularkey's overlooking the tight ends.

This is also further proof that this team has not committed to the run game, or has given up on it far too easily, during Ronnie's entire tenure in Miami. Run the damn ball.

Interesting thread. Even more interesting is the counterpoint of how statistics can be used either way. But somehow I still feel we should just give Ronnie the damn ball!
(apologies for the Meshawn reference or anything Jet related :barf:) :monkeyr:JETS:monkeyl::jetssuck:

Ronnie is a beast.

Mark my words Ronnie Will finish the season with over 1500+ yards and 12 td's

I didn't even factor in the receiving he is going to get.

Cameron Time!

Cam will let Ronnie loose. Ronnie will shine. It's Cameron Time Baby!

One of the sickest and most idiotic stats from last year was in the first Bills game. Ronnie had something like 66-68 yrds on 13-14 carries and finished with 70 yds on 15 carries. HE ONLY RAN THE BALL ONCE OR TWICE THE WHOLE 2ND HALF !!!!! Right then and there, Mularky should have been fired.
