I keep reading that people are so worried that we dont have a great backup RB behind Ronnie Brown... I dont understand why everyone keeps thinking that he is gonna get injured... am i missing something... When we had ricky no one cared who our backup was. Ronnie Brown will be just as good as Ricky and we will rip sh*t up

I completely agree. I just want Ronnie to get the load 300+ times and I could care less about having a good backup. I think what we have now is fine with Minor/Morris (or Haris/Riggs). People should stop being so worried about Ronnie getting injured and start getting pumped up for next season!

I think morris is very good just hasnt had that much of a chance to show it yet. But now he will have his chance.

Lemme just tell you something. I read Maxim today and he has a FIERCE ad in it. He looks HUGE. I'm not worried about Ronnie at all.

SAMMY (morris) WE LOVE YOU SAMMY!!!....

i dunno chris berman said it in 2004

The thing I'm looking at is he'll be in better shape this year because he won't have missed any camp qnd have it hurt him like he did last year. Another is with an actual arm like Pep or even Harrington's in the backfield, defenses will have to respect the deep ball and in turn open more for the run. Another thing that will help are the improvements to the Oline we have made and also adding Beasley to block will do wonders for Ronnie this year. A committee of RBs to spell Ronnie doesn't bother me. Hell a few years ago it use to take 3 RBs to do what he does on his own now. He will probabally be used more in the passing game with our speed at WR now, he can get a lot of dink and dump passes over the line and rumble on for many many many first downs. This year Ronnie will come into his own.

Look, injuries happen. Nobody is hoping that Ronnie gets hurt. But you have to face reality that it is better to plan for unfortunate events rather than ignore them and look like a fool later.

He does look bigger than last year, but that doesn't mean we don't need a good back-up. The back-up role should be a good battle.

I think there are two points here. First, you always want a contingency plan. Especially at a spot as key and injury prone as RB. I never understood why Wanny built his team around a single power back and then neglected to find a suitable backup. In the long run, that oversight and his inability to adapt to a new paradigm contributed in large part to his being fired.

Second...platooning tailbacks keeps them fresh and the defense off balance. If they have similar skills, then a tired D has to keep chasing them if they're elusive or keep getting run over by them if they're power backs. If they have different skills, they can be utilized to force adjustments in the defense. Either way, the more fresh they are the more explosive they can be, especially late in the game and late in the season (ie Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson, Tatum Bell/Mike Anderson, Thomas Jones/Adrian Peterson/Cedric Benson, Warrick Dunn/TJ Duckett, and of course the R&R show).

Well I am of the opinion that we do need another back. I wouldn't go so far to say a great backup but we need a proven guy back there who can take over as a full time starter if he gets hurt. I am sure you are aware of how ineffective an offense can be without a running game (2004 season). I like Morris and Minor and I think J may have potential but when given opportunities in the past none have demonstrated the ability to carry the load. I like them all but what happens if they need to be the starter for 2/3 games if not the rest of the season due to an unpredictable injury?

ok let me break this down when we had ricky yes we had him but we were not going anywhere and we didn't have a line so if he got hurt it din't really matter but now we have a chance so i see why this man is worried bout ronnie but now we have some what of a line and we ahve somehting to worry bout he is are future but waht i don't understand is how can al these fans are so hapopy that ricky is out when even last yr if we din't have ricky we would not have won a few games.. and i know that al these fan that now "hate" ricky over some stupid **** that happen there really happy when he was putting points up for us...well to me loosing ricky is big but i think ronnie will be ok but even big rannie is gonna miss ricky

This is exactly the argument I used FOR trading RW (before the latest drug failure)... There is no insurance that RB won't get hurt and if he does, we'll have to compensate somehow, but we do have Sammy Morris is capable. He's not RW or RB, but he's capable of running the ball or at least most of a committee of running backs (which is the way I would suppose that Saban would compensate for Brown and RW out...)

And I still would have traded RW for a day one pick had this last incident not occurred...
