And lose a few pounds for next season. Remember when we traded for Ricky and the big knock on him was that he didn't have many long runs? Well Ricky lost a few pounds and it helped his explosiveness and speed tremendously, without losing any strength. I think the loss of a few pounds would help Ronnie in a similar way. I think he actually bulked up this offseason to help him carry a full load. But I think after proving to himself and everyone else that he can carry a full load, he should think about dropping a few pounds. And please don't get me confused with people who think he's a bust. I absolutely love Ronnie and want him to reach elite status. I think after an offseason of losing a few pounds and working on more quickness, he will reach elite status. Anyway for now, GREAT GAME RONNIE!!!!

After an offseason when he put on a little bulk because everyone was worried that he couldn't carry the load of a #1 back.

Hey trial and error. Ronnie should know by next season what weight works best for him. I would imagine he would drop a few to gain a little more speed.

I've got to pretty strenously disagee with the idea that Ricky Williams did not lose any strength. The guy went from the most punishing runningback in the league to someone who got decleated by Asante F'ing Samuels. He gained speed, but he clearly lost power, and he wasnt as good as the 230+ pound Ricky Williams. Dont get me wrong, Ricky was still effective, but I'm not really sure I want to make that gamble with Brown.

Brown's not breaking big runs because of a lack of speed or explosiveness, it's because he doesnt get in alot of situations where he can, and when he does he doesnt finish runs properly. Not to say he's not running hard, he's just not running as smart as he should be. He's got a tendency to break longer runs towards the sidelines where he'll get knocked out of bounds, or he'll slow down and try to stiff arm guys he should be just trying to outrun.

Ricky had some extra fatty weight, IMO Ronnie has a completely different build than Ricky did

If there is any way for Brown to gain speed, he should get it done because speed is the only thing keeping this guy from being ELITE.

I'm talking about the Ricky Williams right after he came from the Saints. The one that led the league in rushing. If I remember correctly he was always a huge back, even playing fullback at Texas, but when he came to Miami he worked with a nutrionist to get a little leaner so he could become more explosive. I wasn't talking about the Ricky when he came back from his year off. That Ricky, I agree was too light.

But agreed also that Ronnie is not put in enough situations to break the long runs. Ricky's and most other backs break the big runs on their 20th carry of the game in the 3rd and 4th qtr when the D is getting worn down. And we all know Ronnie doesn't get enough carries in the 2nd half.

You guys should remember most runningbacks cant actually just outrun a corner other than Willie Parker, Clinton Portis, and Tiki Barber

There are reasons for this

1) Corners usually have an angle on the play

2) Corners are the fastest guys on the field a lot of the time

I have no questions about Ronnie's speed, its his change of direction skills you should be thinking about needing improvement, most corners arent good tacklers and runningbacks put a little move on them to make them whiff on the tackle, then turn on the burners. While as Ronnie usually lowers his head and runs them over, but that slows him down and allows safetys and fast LB's to catch up.

Neither style of running is better, but we should face the fact that Ronnie isnt a shifty runner

A little drop in weight could do the trick for Ronnie in gaining more explosiveness all around. But keep doing what your doing Ronnie, no complaints here. At least we know Ronnie isn't going to quit on us and go smoke pot.

He probally could lose 3 to 7 pounds, but I have to wonder how much that would actually help anyway.

No matter how he runs if he can do what he did last week consistantly Im happy.

I'd like to how Ronnie does at around 226 lbs. Larry Johnson plays at around that weight and he's about Ronnie's size. For his height and build, that might be the ideal weight. The problem is, I think he probably is already at a low body fat percentage ... maybe 6-8%. It's not easy to lose that last 6-8% of body fat. I bet reporters in the locker room will tell you that Ronnie is just built really thick. His neck alone is big and his thighs are probably twice as big as mine. That's why he is such a load to bring down and he can put the punishment on opposing defenses. I thought he ran with good speed and quickness yesterday even with more carries. It seemed like he was getting better the more carries he got.

Same could be said for almost every RB in the league. I think it could be done, someone like Ricky did it and he was a specimen. With the money these guys make and since it's their job, it's feasible.

ronnie brown doesn't need to lose weight to be a more explosive back .. he needs to make quicker decisions and commit to a certain hole and hit it as sooner rather than later if possible .. other than that he's great
