I dont want this to turn into a "trade ricky thread".... im just curious as to how many people from this site feel that Ronnie Brown would be a better back next year being the only guy around. NOT WILL HE HAVE BETTER STATS.. because of course he will cuz he will have more carries...

Does having ricky in the same backfeild make ronnie better by keeping him injury free........... or does it hurt him because it takes away from his time to develop and learn to take the "load".....

really difficult to say, no doubt ronnie is good, but so is ricky. It only takes one play for a back or any player to have a serious injury so that arguement in my mind is out. I just think that it is a good thing that Ronnie isn't an egotistical player that doesn't appreciate the fact that he is sharing the backfield. Having both of them is a really great thing, especially with Ricky's contract the way it is. If we develop an above average passing game our offense will become one of the best.

Ronnie has already stated that he's learned a lot from RW. Ricky gives us depth, gives us versatility, and he is dirt cheap. let him stick around for at least one more season.

i dont think they compliment each other well--like tatum bell and mike anderson.

R&R are both slow starters and need a lot of carries

I think it will prolong Ronnies career. I don't think it hurts him,I think he's been in a two man backfield for a few years now and he understands how to get the most out of his playing time. It also gives the Dolphins very good depth at the RB position because we have two outstanding RB's. I also like the fact that Ronnie spends every day with a guy who ran for nearly 2000 yrds in a season and is a heismen trophy winner. All in all, it helps Ronnie much more then hurts him. IMO.

I think a running back needs to get carries to get into a groove. This is especially true when you don't have a particularly dominating O-line. (Which we don't). If we had a better O-line, I don't think the effects on having both them would be as apparent. But normally the bigger backs are sort of like a QB: they have to be given opportunity to get into a rythm. Ronnie would probably be more effective with more carries because he needs to find a groove. He needs to wear the defense down. THis is the same way RW was when he was around the 240 lb. area. WHen he lost that weight his first year with us, he was much faster and was much quicker on the cutback runs. Ricky's vision is also unparallelled.
If Ronnie gets about 25 carries a game, he would be at his best. If he continues to get 15 carries a game, he will still do well (especially consideringhe'll have a full camp this coming season) but no question, 25 or so carries a game and RB is running over, through and around the defense by the 4th quarter.
That said, I'd still rather have them both.

That's the only reason I'm not against trading Ricky. They both require certain amounts of carries. I would like to go the route of the Bucs when they first signed Thomas Jones, a bust from Arizona. As our backup next year the Fins should sign William Green and get good picks for Ricky if available. Otherwise try to continue with the current seperate drive style.

Your poll is worded incorrectly IMO...RW is not and will not be a mentor to RB. The RB position is one position that, with the overriding talent that Brown has, he doesn't need Ricky as a role model or mentor...What both backs have is given talent, not learned talent. The only reason this question even comes up is because of his history in college and of course the fact that we have both guys available. But if you're suggesting that we need to keep RW around to help Ronnie learn the ropes at the position, you couldn't be further from the truth....

Talent alone does not make a great back and Im sure that Ricky could show Ronnie some things to make him a better back. Hmm a mediocre QB could teach our QB of the futrure to be a good QB and a great back like Ricky could not show Ronnie how to be better. Ronnie is not being held back by Ricky and no one is truly sure how big a running load that Ronnie can carry since he has rarely ran the ball over twenty times in a game in college or the pros. Everyone speculates because of his size that he is better suited to be a workhorse but size has never kept many backs from getting injured. If that was the case Okaye would not have had such a short career. even in limited carries Ronnie got banged up last year and was forced to miss a game. I say if we can keep two good backs and not kill the salary cap why not because if we lose one we have another. Ricky has little trade value unless someone takes a huge chance so we lose nothing for now.

I agree that a rb needs carries to get in the groove. The dominating rushing games we had last season occurred when one back got at least 20 carries. Our rushing game wasn't nearly as effective when the backs split carries.

thats what i have been thinking to.but i think it depends.i think ronnie should get more carries.

Id like to see him take in one more year of learning and comfortablility... then unleash him in 2007 with the bulk...

:hmmm:

I wouldn't call ricky a slow starter.

Most backs in the league take 5 - 7 carries to get into the "flow of the game" and get a feel for the D they are facing.

and when I see Ricky come in with a clean jersey in the 3rd quarter after having ronnie plow over people all day, that makes me think they compliment each other pretty darn well.
