I keep seeing highlights of other teams signing up rookies and having camps with them. Are we missing something? Is there any action on our part?

Rookie Mini camp starts tomorrow

The DOlphins typically sign their players last

Thumbs up for the advice, not that I'm happy we sign our players last. I was hoping that might change with Ireland gone, it might be different. Do you think this is due to Aponte's negotiations? Or do we wait to see what others sign for and aim for that?

Those are the teams that dont have offsetting language in rookie contracts:chuckle:

Ever since the new CBA agreement not that concerned over any long holdouts like the old days. The leverage of the rookies has basically been greatly reduced if not almost totally eliminated.

Not true, in fact many of the contracts this year, thanks in part to the Fins setting the standard, have offset language in them.

In the end, it make little difference to sign them now or in a few months...there is little negotiation on these contracts and very little to be worked out...

Offset language is ****ing dumb.

Example:

We may recoup some money on Jonathan Martin but the guy that was hoping to benefit from the offset insurance policy has been fired. You see? There is zero benefit for the GM, but there is a risk he alienates the player. Thats what you call a high risk low reward situation, which is ****ing dumb.

No **** sherlock, I was mocking the people who previously criticized our FO for insisting on offsetting language in rookie contracts. I had always advocated offsetting language.

What do you mean there is "zero benefit"? Any unpaid money that was guaranteed to Martin is offset by the money the SF pays him....meaning we are off the hook for his guaranteed base salary for 2014

Sorry, didn't know you were being sarcastic. No need to curse at me. It's hard to distinguish sarcasm from idiocracy over fan message board.

Any player that alienates himself due to offset language I don't want on the team. It's part of the process. Likewise any GM that gives thought to how a player feels about negotiations needs to be fired as well. Protecting the team's assets to add better players, or keep better players is the GMs job, not caring how the player feels about it.

Wow. I mean ****ing WOW!!! I can't believe you guys are claiming victory in the offset language debate. I mean it worked out exactly how I thought it would for the guy demanding it, you know, Jeffrey Ireland, but yeah you're right, it was ****ing brilliant. mindboggled.gif

And as far as I know we haven't recouped a god damn thing from the Martin contract yet anyway, and its likely we don't.

You mean Aponte, not Ireland. And if Martin is on any NFL team this year, the offset language will have worked.

ehh rookie minicamp is about not getting anyone hurt before the pads come on...not much value...just gonna hope no one gets hurt in a helmet and shorts
