Quick Sunday night update: Sensing the Dolphins were potentially headed in this direction, agent Drew Rosenhaus said during his weekly segment on WSVN-Fox 7 that he asked the Dolphins to release Brian Hartline so that Hartline could go into the market and explore his options and also give the Dolphins an opportunity to re-sign him.

Rosenhaus said the Dolphins have interest in re-signing Hartline and didn't rule it out. But as Armando Salguero noted, Hartline has interest in teams closer to his native Ohio and with an established quarterback, making the Colts an appealing option. Rosenhaus said he expects Hartline to sign somewhere this week.

Rosenhaus, who does not represent Mike Wallace, also said he believes Wallace will remain with the Dolphins because the team needs him after releasing Hartline and Brandon Gibson. He said he feels that way even though he knows Miami is trying to trade him and also believes they have asked him to take a pay cut (which has been confirmed by people close to the situation).

Lol. Imagine how hard some posters here would rage if we were to resign Hartline immediately after cutting him.

Hartline's primary issue was always that he was overpaid. So bringing him back at a fraction of the cost is not a problem.

Sounds like agent talk from Drew, tbh.

He asked the Dolphins to release Hartline?

Newflash Drew, Hartline was counting over 7 million on the cap this year. Only way he was staying is if he took a restructure. Dolphins called your bluff when you saw that $4.2 million cap hit and thought Hartline had another year because of his bond with Ryan. Dolphins said, nah man, we'll take that 3 million in free space and good luck Brian.

Reports have it to where they didn't even ask about restructuring a deal. I don't see him back in Miami.

Yeah I am sure that Drew and Hartline asked the Dolphins to release him...
at first it doesn't sound legit but the more I think of it, maybe they did ask for release since they knew he was gonna get cut anyway, he could get a head start signing somewhere else? maybe he is sick of the drama in miami...or its complete BS

Yea, that would be the only reasoning. For him to get a head start in free agency because Miami told Drew he was getting cut anyways. But Drew definitely didn't approach Miami and say "can you release Brian Hartline? We want to test the market"

Maybe but the Dolphins could have saved over $2.5 million more if they had waited until March 10 to cut Hartline and designate him as one of their two June 1st cuts.

The Dolphins actually did Hartline a favor by releasing him now.

I think Brian is moving on to another team.

I think so too, the Browns and Colts have been mentioned, I think the Bengals will be in the mix too because it appears they are looking at WR's and the reports Hartline wants to be near his hometown.

Yea, but Miami wouldn't have that $3 million in extra space until June. If he was going to be a June 1st cut, Miami would of held off on cutting him until they saw what they are getting in Free Agency and the draft.

If Hartline signs back with the Dolphins its because that's where he was offered the most money.

I think its perfectly normal to tell someone you're cutting that "hey, you never know. You may be back"

If he were offered equal money, I'm thinking he goes to the other team.

I hope Wallace does stay.

If CK is correct about Lazor liking Wallace quit a bit, then I think the team will try to make it work for atleast one more year.

Ross got involved with this one so it wouldn't be surprising if it came from Ross' mouth.

I've been told Brian Hartline was personally called by Steve Ross. This is business. He understands. He's a FA now to learn his market.

That would make sense but there are a couple players that would be better cuts after June 1st and by that time more pieces of the puzzle are in place so you might as well not use your trump cards now. Hartline isn't coming back, he's done in Miami.
