Guys like Ndamukong Suh don't hit free agency often. The 28-year-old is in the middle of his prime during a career that could one day end in Canton.

There's a strong argument to be made that Suh is the best defensive free agent to hit the market since Deion Sanders did 20 years ago. We'd take Suh at this stage of his career over Mario Williams, Rod Woodson, Nnamdi Asomugha, Julius Peppers, Darrelle Revis and other big names that have been on the open market before.

A return to Detroit is not out of the question. The Lions have displayed a surprising amount of confidence in their ability to re-sign Suh, but their decision not to place the franchise tag on him will make it tougher.

So where will Suh land? Let's pick the most likely landing spots.

Miami Dolphins

They have cleared plenty of salary cap space and could be in position to make a big splash. We wonder if new Dolphins head honcho Mike Tannenbaum will be as aggressive in Miami as he used to be with the Jets. The Dolphins need to rebuild their interior defensive line.

Agreed, $7M for an average to below average TE sure seems to eliminate any big time signings.

Teams with Superstars win SuperBowls, who on the Dolphins is top 3 in the League at their position?

now that we have cap room and getting money here and there for depth, and positions of need..... signing Suh would kill all that.

Ellerbe and Starks would free up roughly 14 mill. Restructure Pouncey. We definitely won't be doing much with the Clay dilemma now. Doesn't deserve 7M when he's injured all the time.

We could use a nasty guy up front.....what he does on the field hits his pocketbook and not the Phins....I am cool with it.....just hire a chauffeur for him as his driving seems to be his main off-the-field issue.

not if you are giving clay a $7 mil 2015 cap hit

Hoops, I usually agree with you, but I think you're overthinking the Clay / Transition Tag deal. It's not a real big deal. It simply buys us time to work out a long term contract, and it keeps us from losing him without the opportunity to match any offer he receives from another team. Heck, this way we can find out his market value without automatically losing him to another team. I would be very, very surprised if he played under the 1 year 7 mil. transition tag designation this season. The only bad thing right now is that it ties up 7 mil. of cap space. Back to the topic at hand....I would love to see Suh in a Dolphins uniform, but with all the other needs we have I just don't see us going in that direction.

We have a winner.

Unless we continue cuts, like Starks and Ellerbe.

Ellerbe, Wheeler and Wallace (if he's cut) would be candidates for June 1st cuts but we can't make those until the new league year starts...by then it's too late.

I don't think we have the money and obviously this is speculation by Rosenthal.

as it stands that's an ugly cap hit for clay for one year...we'll see if it changes...but it looks ugly on the books to me as it is...all comes back to the cap hit
