Ross Making The Call On Dolphins Deadline Deals And Champ Kelly Is A Goner

The only thing that gives me hope is if Kelly is a goner after this season then what GM would come here if he is forced to be stuck with McDaniel? We all know forced marriages don't work!

If you bring in a GM and give him the authority to fire the coach then I wouldn't call it a forced arrangement. If its implied that the coach is going to stay regardless and its the owner's call then I'd agree.

From the new GM's perspective its not such a bad position to be in. If things go south next season then its the coach and not him that's next on the chopping block.

I do not know why any competent GM would think about it that way. From my perspective, new GM will want their guy from the beginning so they have a clear and consistent rebuild process.

So Dolphins. Use a first for Phillips, trade him for a third. Fine the first was a sunk cost. But Phillips production and injury history was not much different than Chubb. Of course we gave up a first for Chubb, and then paid him through the nose. Then watch us end up keeping Chubb, who is old and gone, after we traded Phillips who is young. The organization is a ****ing mess if you look at it holistically. Also I am consistent with the OP, I said I wanted more than a third for Phillips. Watch him be awesome in Philly.

Name one time we have come out looking smart when we trade with Howie Roseman?

No a new GM would want a head coach he is familiar with and not a holdover from the previous GM.

We should be happy to get a 3rd.

Phillips is the most dangerous injury risk player you could have on a team. His deal is also up and he's a FA at the end of this year. We're not going to pay him what he's going to want due to my first comment.

Phillips had 2 major injuries, missed more than a full season of games over the last 2 years and has never had a season with 9 sacks. Why would we invest in that player during a rebuilding period? He’ll be 27 before the start of the 2026 season and he needs paid.

That is a very good question. Sounds like you are describing Nick Chubb to a T, and we gave up a first and then god knows what in terms of money for him!

What has that got to do with your original post.

i wasn't replying to my OP, i was replying to your comment.
this organization is a mess.
you look at the series of events holistically, and this is one more example of why we have not won a playoff game in 25 years.
as far as the OP is concerned, i said a third would not be sufficient for Phillips. it is right in there.
i am being consistent.
i think howie roseman is going to make us look like idiots again, like he always does.
steve ross and champ kelly vs roseman, i know which side of the bet i am taking every single time.
turns out we are even paying the eagles as part of this deal by eating a portion of phillips salary

Lol and my post was in response to your OP about jaelan Phillips.

This org and its leadership sucks no argument there. But Phillips missed his prime and needs paid. He ain’t playing too well. Why would we prioritize that in a rebuild? A day 2 pick is a great return for damaged goods.

It didn't sound like Phillips wanted to be here anymore from when he has been interviewed by the press, there was going to be a market for a 26 year old pass rusher despite his injury history.
Chubb may be gone by EOB today

so i agree with some of that. the question is what kind of deal do u think phillips is going to end up with and what do you think we will end up with from the 3rd round pick? my view is phillips and his contract is better value than the expected value of what we get out of our third rounder. phillips is still young with upside and a lot of ability. i understand why the eagles want him. he solves a problem now, and they view him as a lottery ticket with big upside. howie roseman is not dumb.

phillips really wanted to stay here. made a home here, etc. numerous commentary from him on this issue

It’s a smart trade for both sides. They’re in a Super Bowl window and JP helps their pass rush. They have no long term commitment to him if he doesn’t impress them.

JP conservatively was likely to get 20 mil a year. He’s in no way worth that imo.

yes. that is correct. that is why howie roseman is smart. solves and issue for them now, and he bought a call option on someone with a lot of potential upside. heck, if phillips looks good, and the eagles cannot afford to keep him, they will end up with a third round comp pick when they lose him in FA, so they will have gotten him for almost nothing. or they can pay him and keep him. this is why howie roseman is smart. only way he loses is if phillips gets hurt (maybe) or sucks (doubt it my guess is he ends up looking really good there w that DL and fangio scheming him up).
