Hello my fellow Phins fans: :dolphins:

Its another light day in Dolphins News...so I thought we should start a new thread to discuss our beloved Phins 2006 roster.

You guys know the deal....

This is all speculation on my part....But I wanted to do a write-up to pass the time. Its kind of boring today at work anyways....

BTW: I used this source for the roster as it stands today
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/teamRoster?categoryId=67052

And yeah I know we have our own version here on FinHeaven. I just thought this was more clearer. No offense to anyone intended....

Road To The Final 53

QB - This, as we all know, it pretty cut and dry. Duante Culpepper will start. Joey Harrington and Cleo Lemon will be the backups. It appears that Harrington will be our no.2 and Lemon our no.3 -- although its early yet. Things could change based on their individual performances in the upcoming training camp and the pre-season. IMO it won't! (OK that's 3)

RB - With Ricky Williams suspended from the NFL and currently mending a broken arm, Ronnie Brown is our starter. It also appears that the backups are going to be Sammy Morris and Travis Minor. There are some out there who might say Kay Jay Harris might make the team. IMO he won't! Again training camp and the preseason will decide who is 2nd and 3rd between Morris and Minor. IMO Morris will be no.2 and Minor no.3. (OK that's 6)

FB - The addition of Fred Beasley as I've said countless times is HUGE!!! He is a triple threat (blocks, catches and runs well) out of the backfield and is going to have a major impact. Darien Barnes will be the backup. (OK that's 8)

Up til this point, I think everyone is pretty much in agreement. It's when u get to the WRs that it gets very tricky.

WR - There are currently 18 WRs on our roster. IMO two-thirds or 66% of these players will be cut. And of these, there are some very talented guys. But here's my picks of the bunch. Chris Chambers and Marty Booker will start. Our number 3 receiver will shock everybody.   It will be Devon Aromashadu. Hint: This kid is already signed for four years. Now I know that some of you will say Wes Welker or Derek Hagan. IMO these guys will also make the cut. However, Welker won't be used as much as he was last season. He will primarily be our return specialist. Hagan will develop into a 3rd down receiver but that's down the road. Aromashadu (love that name) will be our version of Joey Galloway. He's extremely explosive off the line and fast down the field -- Ideal target for Culpepper. Well that leaves our sixth and final WR spot. Hmmmmmm. Kelly Campbell will round out the list of very talent receivers. The latter 4 will see plenty of action in training camp and the preseason, but Aromashadu will beat out the bunch!!! Oh and for those Marcus Vick lovers out there....ahhh, IMO he won't make the cut. (OK that's 14)

TE - I think Nick Saban will keep 3 TEs. Obviously, barring any further domestic violence issues, Randy Mc Michael (My fav player :cooldude: ) will be the starter. The backups will be Teyo Johnson and Lorenzo Diamond. IMO Keith Heinrich and Justin Peele  won't make the cut. The reasoning behind Diamond over the others is that he's more versatile and an Auburn product (we all know how Saban loves SEC kids). (OK that's 17)

OL - Centers - Rex Hadnot will start and Seth Mc Kinney will be backup. Guards - Jeno James will start on one side and Bennie Anderson on the other. Vernon Carey (a converted Tackle) and CJ Brooks will be the backups. I know some of you will disagree here. But it's my opinion. Guards - Wade Smith (yes I said Wade Smith) will start on one side and L J Shelton on the other. Smith makes the cut because of his experience and his youth. Hudson Hauck has been working real hard with him. he will be much improved. Backup guards will be Joe Toledo and Mike Pearson. They are both huge linemen and all they need is some real game experience. IMO Tony Pape might also make the final roster as insurance. (Ok that's 28)

DL - Assuming the new 3-4 defense scheme, all the following players will make the final cut. Jason Taylor, Kevin Carter, Vonnie Holiday and Keith Traylor (all last years starters will be back). Matt Roth, David Bowens, Manuel and Rodrique Wright and Jeff Zgonina will be the backups. IMO Vickerson and Fred Evans will not make it. (Ok thats 37)

LB - Zach Thomas and Channing Crowder will be starters on the inside.
So who else you ask? Sedrick Hodge and Keith Newman will be the two backups. Remember, under the new defensive scheme, Roth, Taylor and Carter will be used sparringly as outside linebackers. Look for Saban to keep a few extra linebackers on hand (since this is the only true weakness on the team -- depth wise). IMO he will a Donnie Spragan and Derrick Pope as insurance. Eddie Moore will be cut. (Ok that's 43)

Secondary - Will Allen and Travis Daniels will be the starting CBs. Jason Allen and Yeremiah Bell will start as safties. Saban will keep 4 or 5 more players for backups and also return specialists. IMO it will be 4!!! Will Poole and Ronaldo Hill as back up CBs. Hill also as a return specialist. Siddeeq Shabazz and Tavares Tillman as back up safties. Andre Goodman will be cut  . (OK that's 51)

K - Olindo Mare. There will be no other . Mare was never out in Miami as reports had previously stated. He still one of the best and he will have a great season for us (OK that 52)

P - Donnie Jones. Great year last year. Should be as good or better this year. (finally 53!!!)

Whewwwwwwwww....That wasn't easy, but there you have it!!!

Now I'm sure some of you will no doubt disagree with my picks. But that's what your opinion is all about. Please sound off on my picks and you are welcome to make your own.

Til next time.....Gooooooooo Phinssssssssss!!!!!!

I heard from a reliable source that G-Force will make the Dolphins 12th man roster.:dolphins: :woot:  :happydrin :rastanana

Lorenzo Diamond was cut way back in the beginning of the offseason

NoblePhin, you are absolutely correct. Diamond was cut. It appears that Fox Sports didn't update the roster. Being that that is the case. Justin Peele will make the cut. Heinrich won't.

Wow! Devin beating Campbell and Hagan:eek:

The advantage with Devin is HUGE in the passing game!!! Culpepper will open up the offense with long passes to Aromashadu and that will leave single coverages on Chambers and Mc Michaels.

Hagan and Campbell are more possession receivers. You will see them in 3rd down situations. But Aromashadu is a big play type of WR. And he is the perfect guy to break a game open with. He make a big impact in a few games this season. Mark my words!!!

Minor is far from a sure thing at RB, Ill take Kay Jay Harris there.
Shabazz at safety? Long shot at best. I'd give that roster spot to CB Shirdonya Mitchell instead.

hnt, other than rookies, any one we signed to a long term deal in the off-season will almost certainly make the team (Peele, Goodman). It will hurt our cap if we release them, because we will pay them all of there gurantees without them playing a single down for us. What are your grounds for the belief that Sideeq Shabaz will make this team over a guy like Goodman or Deke Cooper. Shabazz is a scrub who has been bounced all over the place, including NFL Europe. Cooper and Goodman are both young and have starting experience. Im sure it has been mentioned, Diamond was released. And just in case you missed this one, we got rid of Troy Drayton and Hunter Goodwin too! Other than those problems, Rod Wright will go on IR most likely, which means either Evans or Vickerson probably will make the cut. And dont be so sure Zgonina will make it. If the young guys impress he could find himself the odd man out. Also, since Sammy Morris is a former FB, there is not much need to keep Barnes. There are always alot of FB's on the market so we could find one in case Beasley is injured. REnaldo Hill is a safety at this point, not a CB. Another thing is I doubt we will keep Campbell and Aromashadu. We wont need two of the same type of player, and keeping 6 WR's is not logical. I also think that Anthony Alabi will make it over tony pape.

One thing I agreed with was that we should start Bell nex to Allen.

I'd have to say there's a strong chance Damion McIntosh sticks around at least as a backup to both tackle spots, possibly even a starter, considering his relationship with Houck and improvement throughout last season. Other than that, Roth and Carter will NOT see time at linebacker no matter what the defensive alignment.

On the Deke Cooper and Andre Goodwin front. I totally disagree with you. I think Saban brought these guys in to push the ones I mentioned earlier.

As for Barnes, some say he is a better blocker than Beasley. IMO he is not! Still, he is a good blocker and will surely make the team.

In the Aromashadu vs Campbell situation. I think many of us thought that Campbell would be the guy to step in perfectly -- since he has played in the past wwith Culpepper. But there's an old saying that goes "Speed Kills" and this kid has it and plenty of it!!! After preseason, it will be a foregone conclusion that Aromashadu is the guy. Notice that for a 7th rounder, he was signed to a four year deal. Saban knows a good thing when he sees it.

Well at least we agree on something. LOL

I can understand that philosophy in the case of Deke Cooper, because he was brought in under a 1 year deal at the league minimum. However, Goodman was signed to a 4 year deal with a nice salary and bonuses. They would not just sign him to a long term deal so he can push will poole and shyronda mitchell. By releasing him, we hurt our cap figure. He would really have to stink for us to do that. And even if they were brought in to push other guys in the secondary, Shabazz was not one of them.
