When we drafted him the expectations were high. So far it's been more hype than production. As fans we are partly to blame. After all we created it. Remember, all the "Roth is a beast" and "Gladiator video" threads. These are the facts he was 2nd round draft pick. He hasn't contributed as much as you expect from that selection. A second round player should be starter at this point in their career excluding the quarterback position. Will he be the player we all expected ? I hope so. This is his year to prove he's more than a speed rusher not fast enough to be anything other than average on the NFL level. I for one got my fingers crossed!

Um, Roth was behind these guys named Jason Taylor and Kevin Carter, some of the best defensive ends to ever play the game. He only saw limited time because of that and in the time he played he showed a lot of promise. I look for big things from him this year now that Carter's gone.

Uh, I thought it played pretty damn good last year the times he was in, what are you talking about?

He's a 2-gap, 3-4 DE. His statistics are not, and will not reasonably be that amazing. Considering he did not start, his stats were pretty damn good. I realize that Seymour really packed it in last season after getting a big contract, but Roth was essentially rotational depth.

Matt Roth- 36 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks.
Richard Seymour- 40 tackles, 4 sacks.

He has been very solid in his LIMITED opportunities, and proved he is ready to contribute in a starting role. Thus we let Kevin Carter go. This is a pretty random cheap shot at a guy who has not yet been given a chance to prove himself. Interesting perspective from a Dolphins "fan"...:tantrum:

:sidelol::sidelol::sidelol::lol::kick::kick: WE will see shag. If he is not a major contributor to this D this year I will donate 1000 shag points to you---Only thing is, what would you call a major contributor. Someone that holds an end up so that JT and JP can get 24 sacks between them?
Or do you expect him to get 24 sacks and JT and JP get a few?

Seriously you do have a valid point, he does like his bull rush which wont do him many favours. He has to learn more moves, but he will, so dont worry too much. jeez if he was that good we wouldn't have had to sign Carter last year, in the first place

I thought Roth was a bust

then I saw him absolutely OWN all world guard Steve Hutchison

cmon Capn'.... he was good enough to where we let the guy in front of him go... and don't forget, that was no chump starting in front of him Carter was pretty damned good. Now, I fear he is not the brightest bulb in the box, but he has great heart, desire, and a motor that keeps coming. It remains to be seen if he can maintain the motor for sixty minutes, but I have to say I think he will do just fine... he is about to "start" on the strongest unit in a top 5 defense. Instead of worrying about what we drafted him at, I would rather enjoy the kids intensity and game.... cmon Capn' ,drink the kool aid a lil'

In the limited time he played last year I thought he did a excellent job and now that he is starting in a 3-4 formation I expect very good if not great numbers from him. In the Minnesota game last season he knocked Steve Hutchinson off the line the best guard in the league and then forced a fumble. I expect many more plays like that from him this year.

Remember if we all drink the coolaid history indicates it could be a mass suicide! :)

I think that with guys like Zach and JT, along with Joey and Crowder, he cant fail to learn, and as you have mentioned, last years coaching from Carter (one of the premier DE of his time), it must make him better. Alright he will get a lot more exposure this year, but I think he will cope OK, especially with the quality we have on D already.
