I don't know if I'm right, but from the looks of things, it may be in both of these men's interests to change their bodies.

Roth has a nonstop motor, but if he were just stronger, or bigger, he wouldn't have to wait until 10 seconds into a QB's scramble to get to him.

Crowder's legs look like a mermaid's tail all the way down to the knees, and he didn't look as fast as I've heard he is. I'd like to see him drop some weight, but it could all be muscle and I could just be wrong.

While we're at it, Vernon Carey needs to drop at least 40 pounds if he's going to be a Left tackle, or any tackle, otherwise its just going to be a joke.

Positives were Boston, Bell, Daniels, and Crowder (for the most part)

Also Manny Wright just needs a treadmill in his house. If he could last longer than one play, he could be pretty decent.

How bad did our 3-4 look when we ran it with the 3rd team? I just thought that was kinda funny.

Okay, I still have mad love, just trying to help.

PS - What about Booker at QB? I'm not serious, but I'm sad.

Maybe I'm wrong, but perhaps you should think about waiting longer than the first pre-season game before you pass judgement on Matt Roth and Channing Crowder?

We all know Manny Wright will need a couple years to develop, he is after all our 5th round pick in 2006.

I think Vernon Carey losing 40 lbs is a little rediculous. He would be way too small at that weight... Ya, it couldnt hurt for him to get in better shape and maybe loose a few lbs... but 40 is rediculous... he would get dominated...

Nasty

True, True. 15 pounds is more realistic. It's amazing how much quicker a man can be by losing 15 pounds. And quickness is Vernon's biggest problem right now I think.

I'm betting they could both get on your butt in a bar-fight though. 'Specially if you telling Crowder he's a flippin' mermaid

will you please give it a rest with that comment!

It was a game, they played...guess what...IT'S TIME TO START JUDGING regardless of how early it is. Perhaps if you don't like the early judgements you should take some time off from the board until the 4th or 5th preseason game.

It is amazing how many people put this judgement on Carey from one play. Especially a play in which he quickly recovered and pushed the guy allowing Feeley to step up.

I've been watching football for 35 years, I have yet to see the first of 5 Preseason games be the tell all of how good two rookies are, anyone who says it can are just wrong.

And if you don't like disenting opinions perhaps you should take some time off?

Agree ( i think he looks typical LB size)

This is not a JUDGEMENT. It's a fact. Carey needs to have a quicker feet at LT. I know the play you are talking about. He made a good recovery after he had been beaten. He is making an adjustment to a position he is not familiar with. To give him minor criticism isn't exactly crucifying the guy, it;s just an observation about where he could use some work.
AS for his weight loss, I do believe it has been said by the COACHING STAFF that he needs to lose a little weight to increase his quickness, so this is not exactly a new development.

Its even more amazing how many new "experts" we have to this board that can see by the limited action of their first preseason game that rookies that are just two weeks into their first training camp are either too big or too small or too slow, not even considering that perhaps they are doing more thinking right now than they are playing naturally.

First of all, yes it was just one game. Yes both guys did not look their best.

However, they are rookies. They will both continue to learn on the job. If our defense is as complex as reported, then it will take a little while for those guys to get comfortable. Heck they are not only learning to play in a new/faster/bigger league, but a complex D too. I am not worried about their play. AT least not yet.

If they do keep Roth strictly at DE, I agee, he needs to add a little weight.

Crowder needs to stay where he is. Saban wants him big...that's the way he want all his LB. He's willing to sacrafice some speed for bigger, stronger guys.

If it quickens his feet even more...then Carey dropping 10 lbs is ok...40lbs is just too much!

Manny is well, Manny. Everyone said he was a project that showed flashes of greatness. That's why we wasn't taken until the 5th round, of the supplemental draft. Most people got overly excited because the camp reports on Manny were very good. As I saw and everyone who watched saw, he's got a long way to go both mentally and physically. After being in for 3 plays the other night he was spent. He literally just stood there after the ball was snapped at least once that I saw. Of course Madden wouldn't shut up about it so it made Manny seem even worse. But Madden doesn't know the program Wright's on or how much he'll play, if at all, this year.

Roth was doubled team alot in the game... like to see Roth and Jason Taylor in there... cant double both....

If you're talking about the same play I'm thinking about, didn't he get blocked down during the chase on the play & he still got up, chased some more & made the sack?
