25. Joe Philbin
Career Record: 15-17 (.469)
With The Dolphins Since: 2012

You might think that, like Garrett, it’s not clear what Philbin does. You’d be wrong. It is clear. Nothing. Philbin does nothing. Philbin is a former offensive coordinator who didn’t call plays even when he was an offensive coordinator. He doesn’t know how to hire assistants. He doesn’t know who to feature on offense. He doesn’t know how to handle a PR crisis. He does know how to project the personality of a cantaloupe that’s learned how to talk. Maybe Philbin’s value added to the Dolphins is immense behind the scenes. His starring role on Hard Knocks wouldn’t suggest that, but work with me. But even if that were true, could it possibly be worth the ineptitude he’s shown on the sideline? Hiring Mike Sherman? Featuring Daniel Thomas? Having no clue how to get to the ball to his No. 1 receiver or keep his quarterback upright? With a playoff berth on the line, Philbin’s team combined for seven points in Weeks 16 and 17. It generated 24 first downs. That would get you fired five times in Cleveland. In Miami, it wins you a power struggle with the general manager. Philbin’s off-the-field victory will ultimately prove pyrrhic for the Dolphins on it.

What a joke of an article..most are praising how well Philbin held that locker room together through Bullygate

The author is wrong, Philbin is good at something... Throwing challenge flags and picking up candy wrappers.

For the first time perhaps ever I agree with Rotoworld. Phailbin is a terrible head coach and shouldve been canned. This organization took a half step guaranteeing another year of mediocre at best play.

Rotoworld is lower than Florio...and that's pretty ****ing low!

I thought he was mediocre all season long. It took those 2 awful weeks at the end of the season for everyone else to jump on board. Well, better late than never, I guess.

Rotoworld sucks and this ranking of Philbin is completely biased. Philbin is definitely in the hot seat but we will only be able to see the truth of his coaching prowess this year now that Ireland and Sherman are gone. This is 100% Philbin's year, he either proves he is worth keeping by coaching this team to the playoffs or he will be let go.

If he gets us to the playoffs he deserves to stay.

So, if anyone wants to defend Philbin, please let us know why, as far as X's and O's.

Asked this before...they got nothing...

Just hoping that Hickey is just giving him his "gratuity year" before firing his ass.

Did you hear Jermichael Finley talk about Joe Philbin in the lead up to the Super Bowl? Jermichael is coming back from surgery and is not certain to be back in Green Bay next season, so he wants to keep some options open, re other teams that could be interested and Miami is considered one that could be a possible landing place.
Anyway, Finley spoke very highly of Coach Philbin and said that he would want to play for him again. Finley was asked what was Joe good at and his immediate response was the preparation. He went over and over and over the key routes and nothing was ever left to chance and when you thought it was all done Joe would want to go through it one more time. Jermichael seemed to suggest that a key reason behind winning the Super Bowl was the extreme level that the Offense was prepared. Nothing was left to chance.
I was actually very surprised how well he spoke of Philbin. Maybe he's just looking for a new team, but maybe he was being totally honest. If Keller's recovery is going to be slow Finley could be a decent addition if healthy. He is clearly a fan of Joe's.

Id have fired him week 4 after a listless loss of the bye week to a **** Bills team his with no changes to his crap oline....He woulda and shoulda been done. That tells me A TON about his so called PREPARATION.

he's a goof, and shameful to even call him a leader, he is just terrible and needs to **** off

I find myself wanting to hatemonger along with this opinion which is awkward because I dont agree with it. Without a doubt, there are points that one cannot defend. When you hire an offensive coordinator as a head coach it isnt a stretch to expect the head coach to have an impact on the offense. And the offense was bad, folks. Consider how innovative the Seahawks were in the most important game of the year with a player that rarely touched the football all season long. Their play calling had as much back-bone as their defense and it resulted in greatness. Our offense advertised the back-bone of a serpent with none of the bite. As much as one can appreciate the fact that when all seemed farcically desolate and all hope appeared, not just lost but catapulted into a black hole, this team was able to fashion a playoff push; the matter of the offense is inexcusable.

What I cannot agree with is firing a head coach with 2 years along side a rookie QB on a team that is infamous for the lack of young talent when you have a prime example of how said young talent makes all of the difference in the world. Who the f@ck was Pete Carroll in the NFL? Who? Exactly.

Gentlemen, this Martin fiasco has to be the MOST embarrassing situation in the history of the NFL. Give me an example of anything like it EVER being seen in the history of the NFL- one. Spend the next month researching the internet and you wont find one. An NFL player leaving a football team midseason for bullying? What? Add an Oline that has made history for atrociousness find themselves missing 2 starters, a QB in his second season, and a corpse for an offense coordinator and a playoff push- epically collapsing and all- seems like a f@cking miracle let alone the appearance of a head coach deserving of another year.

Also, the winning a power struggle point is bullsh!t. Philbin didnt win. Ireland lost. And he lost due to the 5 years of losing he produced. Yet, Philbin only deserves 2 years? Nope. Hypocrisy.

Rotoworld really crapped the bed with this article.
