I don't put much stock in these but thought I would post it for those interested.

Miami Dolphins

19. Ja'Wuan James, tackle, Tennessee.
63. Jarvis Landry, wide receiver, LSU.
67. Billy Turner, tackle/guard, North Dakota State.
125. Walt Aikens, cornerback, Liberty.
155. Arthur Lynch, tight end, Georgia.
171. Jordan Tripp, linebacker, Montana.
190. Matt Hazel, wide receiver, Coastal Carolina.
234. Terrence Fede, defensive end, Marist.

Overview: The James pick is perceived as a reach because most pre-draft mocks didn't have James in the top 32, but the Dolphins had a first-round grade on him. So I can't kill the pick. Their evaluators liked what they saw. It isn't like they took a guy they gave a day-two grade at 19. James needs to improve as a run blocker, but will solidify Ryan Tannehill's strong-side protection. Pass pro was a huge problem for last year's Fins. Landry is a stick-moving Hines Ward clone. A mauling college run blocker, Turner has every tool necessary to become a quality pass protector. My guess is Miami will start James at right tackle and Turner at right guard. Pairing rookie offensive linemen side by side worked out well for the 2013 Bears, who ranked No. 2 in the NFL in scoring. Aikens is a big, long press cornerback who could push for playing time quickly. The Lynch and Hazel picks I didn't like as much. The former doesn't do anything particularly well and the latter is a low-ceiling slot prospect. Tripp will immediately help on special teams and could develop into a starting weak-side linebacker down the road. Small-schooler Fede was worth the seventh-round stab. Rookie GM Dennis Hickey plugged holes and plucked value, for the most part. There wasn't a lot of flash and pizzazz, but I think the Dolphins got at least four good players.

Grade: B

I think it was a solid draft.
Not flashy but solid.

I thought Pat Kirwin put it best... He said this draft was about catching up to last season. Meaning the Martin/Incognito incident set us back and we needed to fix those issuse, which this draft did. I like it, there's 3 potential starters and a couple role players.

Spot on with playing catch up. O-Line fixed after last years mess.

I've been beating that drum for a while now. Ireland has been at least a year behind every step of the way in putting the pieces around Tannehill. The skill players should have been added his rookie season so they could grow together and the line should have been fortified last season to give us a real chance to compete.

I think Landry is the first 2nd round pick for us in quite some time who is going to contribute, possibly start.

Agreed. If he holds onto the ball and blocks downfield they way he did at LSU, he should be solid. Just a matter of learning the O and refining his skills. As we know, there are very few WR's that come in as a rookie and make an immediate impact. If he's not starting day one, many on here will be calling him a bust! He is definitely in the mold of an Anquan Boldin, if he can produce half as much as Anquan did, we'll have ourself a stud. It's been awhile since we had a WR with his hands and toughness. I think the dude dropped 1 pass last year. That's pretty amazing.

Hickey, I mean Landry might reverse the 2nd round Dolphin curse...

They're another "Broken Clock Right 2X Daily" site when it comes to the Fins, so I don't know how much credit they deserve for seeing as plain as the nose on their face that Hickey had to dig out of hole most incoming GMs aren't left with, doing the best job he could under those circumstances. IMO, it'll be the next draft where we see what Hickey can do without the shackles.

Can't really judge the draft until I see the guys on the field. That's how we set ourselves up for disappointment every year. I like Landry and think he is a solid player. Not sure about some of our other picks.

James and Landry are obvious potential starters. Who do you see as the third? Jordie Tripp??

I have no doubt Jarvis Landry is starting in the slot. For everyone bitching about Brandin Cooks, it's poor value for a slot receiver at #19. James + Landry is a much better combo than say Cooks + Moses

If we all we did in this year's draft is to catch up to last season then we are another year behind everyone else. We needed more out of this draft than just catching up to where we should have been last season.
