Miami going to have to get rid of some overrated players or redo some contracts to get X his money. I see dumping Parker for 9m and reducing James deal for some cap space for an X deal? What else? Howard better not have to play next season without an extension. Get that done ASAP.

When you are talking about top 3 contracts on non first round picks . . . .the franchise tag is “absolutely” in play for year 5. So while on the surface it looks like 1 year left, it is absolutely 1 year with a team option for 1 more year at roughly $15 million in 2020.

So we definitely have time, but I think it should be a priority to get this done after you handle FA and the draft.

We have the cap space, not worried about that at all.

Hope it doesn’t come to the franchise tag

Any idea what kind of numbers we're talking about here?
I would easily expect Top 5 at his position type of money.

The Top 5 according to the link below are as follows

1) Josh Norman $15M
2) Trumaine Johnson (X is defintely better) $14.5M
3) Xavier Rhodes $14.02M
4) Patrick Peterson (Always lived off rep, imo) $14.01M
5) Kyle Fuller $14.0M

I'm guessing at a minimum it's going to take somewhere around $13M and more realistically $13.5M to start talking.

Yea its gonna take 5/75 to do it early and probably 5/90 on the open market.

The Rhodes deal is the one I think we will try to mimic. Keep in mind Rhodes had a 5th year option at an obvious higher number than Howards last year of a 2nd round rookie deal . . . .but 2 years later and an over $20 million dollar cap increase means this contract will be bigger.

Damn! Fins are going to have to pay some nice money to keep X.
IMO, well worth it.
The guy shows up, he's young, he stays healthy and handles his business on and off the field.

They should have taken something off the top of that B.Mcain contract and saved some of it for X.

Wait, isn't the tackle Tunsil due soon?

Howard's contract need to be first priority at end of season. We haven't had a CB like him who can cover and play the ball since Surtain and Madison.

Can you imagine if Tank actually showed up to play this year? Between him and X, Fitz and McCain we would be close to set in the secondary for a few years.

Yea Tunsil we have a solid 3 years tho. Year 4, 5th year option and franchise tag. When you are talking tops at the position, the franchise tag makes more sense because you gotta give the guy that anyway. That contract will likely push 5/90 if he stays healthy and dominant.

Unlike Juwan James who would be looking at a $15 million number on the tag this offseason. Have no issues doing that for Laremy . . .not for JJ tho.
