I've seen it posted as a joke before and I have posted about the possibility before. BP has said before that Roy Williams is "a biscuit short of being a linebacker", and that got me thinking. He is horrible at coverage but a hard hitter. If he put on about 15 or 20 lbs he might be a great OLB. He would fly through offensive lines. Any thoughts on whether or not he could help replace JT if we picked him up, which seems to be the rumor?

Yes, i've heard this debate several times and i think Roy Williams would fit very well at linebacker, at least better than he does at safety if he were able to bulk up. Whether he'd become a five time pro-bowler at OLB i dont know, but then again he's probably only a pro-bowl safety because the whole pro-bowl system is a joke. The guy is not very good in coverage against WR's but his hitting, his blitzing, could make him a very effective linebacker.

I know he was playing safety at the time, but I saw a video of him at Oklahoma where he went over the line and sacked the QB. That is just crazy.

LOL....he is an OLB....they just labeled him a Safety....

I don't think he would welcome the move to OLB like some might think. I think he's too proud of a football player to do that since he's played at a high level at SS. I think he needs to just drop some weight and a change of scenery might help as well.

I think you're right, but I also think it would depend on who asks him. I think he may respond differently to Bill Parcells than another coach.

He probably would considering that he had a good amount of success under Parcells. I think he's alot like Rodney Harrison in a sense that most people think that he's either washed up or isn't the player that he used to be. Jamal Lewis is another player that comes to mind that everyone thinks is "done" and he comes back to show everyone he's still got it.

My other thought would be to move Matt Roth to LOLB and Porter back to the right. Roth is more of an edge rusher than a run stopper and that's why he doesn't fit as an DE in a 3-4. Since a 3-4 OLB is essetially a 4-3 DE it might be the best option. I heard that he has already lost a decent amount of weight this offseason and is more around LB weight right now anyway.

I don't know if it would work out but i think if he learned to use his hands more effectively he would be alright.

Yeah, I'm not as excited about that idea as I would be about the Roy Williams possibility.

Too late in his career for a position change, his best bet would be go to a team that would use him closer to the LOS and utilize his hitting ability, but no to an all out position change would be a good idea if it was 03' though.

I was thinking that too, but then I got to thinking about Vrabel playing at TE fairly well later in his career. It's not too terribly late, especially since he is pretty much an extra linebacker right now as it is.

Thats something totally different. Vrabel isn't a TE he goes in certain packages as a TE and can succeed but he still isn't a TE.

Saying he is "technically" another LB is true but he's still not a LB, he would have to learn how to play that position and perfect it, as a safety in the box your aloud to freelance and make plays which plays to roys strengths, he would basically have to change his style and mentallity as a player completely.
