As part of Throwback Thursday, each week “Rummaging Through the Attic” will feature an artifact from the Dolphins archives that illustrates the multi-faceted legacy of the team. It could range from the historical, such as a jersey or helmet worn during a record-breaking accomplishment, to the whimsical, like a poster or a cheerleader outfit. It could feature anyone from Don Shula to Flipper, it could be in pristine condition or battered after years of use, and it may be on public display in the Gallery of Legends or unearthed from the storage catacombs of Sun Life Stadium. But what each item will have in common is its contribution to the rich tradition of the Dolphins, making it one of the most decorated franchises in the NFL. So join us on our weekly journey as we rummage through the team’s virtual attic to uncover some of the hidden and forgotten pieces of memorabilia from the team’s storied history.

Foremost among those items is his desk, which he used from his first season in Miami (1970) through 1992, when it was replaced by the desk that is still in use in the head coach's office in Davie. A wood carving of Shula’s name stands guard at the head of the desk, and behind it are other tools of his trade, including blank play sheets, along with his personal copies of the highlight reels of Super Bowls VII and VIII produced by NFL Films. Unseen in the top right hand drawer is a piece of NFL history – the famous wristband Shula assembled with a miniature version of the game plan that Colts’ halfback Tom Matte used when he was forced to play quarterback in a 1965 playoff game.
