Rumor: Heat Interested in Bonzi Wells

I saw that...ugh...he'd only take shots from Wade and Shaq. I don't think we need him.

Can Bonzi play point guard? We need a point guard, though he would be a great back up for Dwyane Wade.

I'm happy with what we already have. We have like no money under the cap anyway if I'm not mistaken.

Can fix that by restructuring Shaq's salary. Sorry but come on, that guy is getting overpaid.

I dont get why we need him, we already have a great 6th man in either Posey or Walker and we have another SF/SG in Wright who has a ton of talent, it doesn't make sense to me.

actually after thinking about it, would this move make Walker or Posey expendable?

I'll take Bonzi as a backup for Wade anyday. While the Heat did win it all last year, they were certainly not the favorites and have done nothing to improve the team or increase their chances against a better Phoenix and Dallas. No matter what you think of him, Bonzi is a much better SG than our current backup....Payton.

Miami has a grand total of 3 guards. One is ancient, another has bad knees and will miss a minimum of 10 games, and the third is coming off a grueling summer schedule and has missed an average of 10 games a year due to various injuries. Do you really want to ask some 21 yr old kid to carry the offense? Signing Bonzi would also allow for Riley to cut Wade's minutes. Anything that keeps Wade from hitting the deck even just one time per game helps the Heat's chances come playoff time.

But woudl bonzi sign here as a backup? when he could go to other places at certainly start. I think if he signs here there is going to be trade coming involving walker or posey

He has four options....the Heat, Nuggets, Bobcats, and Rockets. Why the Bobcats would even think about offering him a deal I don't know...mabey they're convinced Wallace is gone after this year. Anyways I doubt he would want to play for a team thats not contending unless they offer him a very nice deal.

Out of the other three the only place he'd start is in Denver. All they have at SG is JR Smith and hes about as unproven as they come. The reasons he will think twice about denver is the fact that they can only offer him ~2.5 mil and George Karl. With Bonzi's history with abrasive coaches and Karl's history with players who have an attitude problem....its a recipe for disaster.

With the Rockets he could get a decent salary and a chance to be the third guy in a rotation with TMac and Battier in their backcourt but Houston would have to use its trade exception to pay him....in essence trading the exception along with a draft pick for the rights to sign him ala Al Harrington to Indiana.

Miami can offer 3 mil, a guaranteed shot at the title, and a decent amount of exposure....but not playing time. He'll get his chance to start on this team given the fact that there is so little depth and so many injury prone players, but come playoff time he won't get on the court unless hes proven his worth to Riley.

In the end its playing time - Denver, money - Charlotte, title shot/exposure - Miami
