A league source with direct knowledge of the contract said Williams received a roster bonus this year for every game he is on the 53-man roster. If Williams gets cut or gets hurt and is placed on injured reserve, he will not get the money for those games.

In addition, Williams will get a $3.4 million base salary in 2009 and a $100,000 workout bonus for that offseason as part of the deal. There are no additional incentives in the deal for 2009. Williams received no guaranteed money as part of the contract.

As one NFL source described it: “It’s not a good deal, but what can you do? He agreed to it.”

Oh Ricky...

Well, the guy isn't exactly in a position to negotiate...

He's probably just happy with his new lease on life in the NFL and happy to be playing for Parcells, who seems to be able to provide him the support he needs. Maybe for Ricky, in some ways, it isn't ALL about the money. Because of that, he might be sacrificing some perks.

The whole situation works out ever so beautifully for the Trifecta.

Was the money he owed for taking a year and 1/2 vacation couple years ago wiped clean? I'm not quite sure how that played out. I do root for Ricky, but in this situation I think a 3rd chance to play and make something in the millions is worth more than the actual dollar amount.

Ricky has always come across as relatively articulate, but that does not necessarily mean he is intelligent...

Besides the Trifecta being great football minds, they are some shrewd business men! They seem to fleece everyone they do business with and the most impressive thing about it is that the people they do business with seem happy. I would hate to negotiate anything with them...

Ricky negotiated his own contract in New Orleans and many think he was ripped off in the sense that if he had an agent, he'd have made MUCH more money.

Looks like Ricky is either stupid financially or really doesn't care that much about money and feels he's paid enough.

meh, whatever difference an agent would have gotten him would have probably been paid to the agent anyway. in the end h'ed probably end up with the same amount of money. but without the hassles and BS that agents bring to the table(IMO)
if he's happy with his deal then I say let it be.
I wish more players did this, I think greedy snake little agents is whats hurting sports now anyway

As the poster said above, it's not like Ricky is in a great position of strength when it comes to negotiations. That being said, NO ONE is going to give him a long term, guaranteed deal with this history and his age. I say it's a pretty damn good 1 year deal. If Ricky stays clean and has the year he's capable of this and next, he's made a nice coin for a couple of year. How many of us would like to know if we work hard and do the things we're supposed in the next years, our employer will pay us $2.5 million?

I read in an article a couple of days ago that Williams is a little bit of a numerology freak.... Is it possible that Ricky asked for the $3.4 Million for 2009 because he wears # 34 ?

I also read that Williams was thinking about changing his number to 44 during the offseason. But Sparano talked him out of it stating that it's not important the number you wear but who you are as a person.. Williams said he liked that answer. But it may be a million dollar answer to a $64,000 question. LOL

Either way, Ricky Williams will be better off than 99% of the general population financially. The top 1%, that's never a bad number to be in.... I also think if he truly rejuvenates his career, he can make some cash on the side with endorsements. Before you freak out at that suggestion, remember that the US is a very forgiving society. There will be companies that will pay Ricky good money to pimp stuff like Gatorade or what have you.

Ricky didn't negotiate his own contract. P-diddy provided and agent who had never negotiated an nfl deal before and they sold the farm on an incentive based deal in the hopes that P-diddy would be able to get a foothold in the NFL as an Agent. Ricky was young and inexperienced and agreed to a foolish and poor deal, but he did have an agent, just not a very good one.

That was Master P's work. Granted, he was in the line with all the bad descisions Ricky made....But RW did not negotiate his own contract there. I wish he'd've hired me as an agent....Or one of my kids...HE'd've gotten a better deal.

Why am I not surprised in the least? :sidelol:

RWs contract was negotiated by Leland Hardy that was hired through Master P. That contract will make you say eww.. eww.. no no no no

If RW gets put on IR this week, he basically gets nothing. I don't think you can overlook the value of a good agent. The agent may have gotten his percentage, but at least Ricky would have some money that he would take home in case of a freak injury.

one thing to keep in mind, Ricky looks great but isn't proven. He hasn't really played in years.

Now if Rickey has a great season, you can bet that he will renegotiate this contract in the off season. That is to say once his agent gets re certified
.
