I was wondering why it is that Miami has had such a difficult time finding a decent running back since Marino came along. (the greatest quarterback to ever live, would of had 5 or 6 rings in the 80's with a decent running game). Here are a few examples : Andra Franklin, Woody Bennett, Tony Nathan, Lorenzo Hampton, Troy Stradford, Mark Higgs, Sammie Smith, Bernie Parmalie, Karim Abdul Jabar, J.J Johnson, cecil collins, John Avery, Lamar Smith, Lawrence Philips ( although we didnt expect much out of him), then of coarse we had Ricky Williams and we all know all the problems we have had with him. Even though he completly out performed all of the above running backs.

With exception to in my mind one year 2002 we havent been able to count on him. Now this trend has gone on for a number of years with some other teams but none as long as this. Do you guys think this terrible trend is going to end now with Ronnie Brown or live on.

It will end with Ronnie Brown, he's a great kid.

Each running back listed has his own story of why each "failed" to deliver. Some were pretty good, some were past their prime, some were mistakes, some were 1st round reaches, some were busts, some were later round picks that over achieved. I think the trend is over as long as Ronnie stays healthy. He will be an above average back for several years.

None of them were picked as high as Ronnie. Even Ricky. And Ricky was an entirely different story, who did win the NFL rushing title while a Dolphin.

If, in a dream world with a few yrs difference Ricky And Dan would have been in the same team then we would have had at least 1 SB under Dans belt.
Its all about the mix and talent around at one particular time. Weve gone without for too long and Mr Saban will hopefully do the biz.

Nice post, SCall, I agree.

yea my gut says it is over, I think Ronnie is going to outshine the entire league over the next few years, he has a great combination of size and speed that is difficult to find. Plus he can really catch out of the backfield, although I am not sure about his blocking. I think it is Ok. Opinions

I think we just had a combo of bad luck with bad decisions. Franklin was starting to come into his own before he was injured. Franklin, combined with marino would have been a pretty good combo. Does anybody remember what his injury was?

Andra Franklin was a fullback and was a pro bowl one. He was among the league's rushing leaders one year and was the best rushing FB for a couple of years. His career was cut short by an injury.
David Overstreet was a promising rookie in 1983, but he died in a MVA.
Most of the guys you mentioned were not high picks except for Lroenzo Hampton and Sammy Smith.
Sammy Smith was the most frustrating, because you could see he was loaded with talent (big and fast). He just didn't have a warrior mentality and couldn't handle the demands of the NFL.
Troy Stradford was a 3rd rd pick who became offensive ROY so he wasn't a bad pick.
Tony Nathan was a good all around back and one of the best receiving backs in the NFL.
Avery was a colossal mistake.

i think it would have ended in rickys first season if every back we had the year he left didnt get hurt.
ever time one of them showed any sign of potential, boom an injury.
how many injured backs did we have that year?
i think it was minor, gordon and henry
