We have to stay away from Casey Hampton. Anderson and Hadnot will not be able to handle him. I would attack the spot that Von Oelhoffen departed. They have a new starter there. I would try to run more off tackle as opposed to up the middle. I am very concerned about our running game against a tough physical front that is going to be especially psyched about playing without Roethlesberger.

Our O-Line will have to be men. This is key. I do not want to see a 20 carry, 43 yard effort for Ronnie Brown. Or worse, we abandon the run and he goes for 12 carries for 27 yards.

Our o line does not have any pro bowlers. Carey is easily our best offensive lineman, and hopefully he will emerge even more.

I'd use Culpepper and the passing game right off and try to open up the running game that way.

The Diesel is more than capable and ready to pick up where Kimo left off last year. There is no weak spot in the Steelers D line. Sorry bout that.

I don't think we'll be able to run against the Steelers until we start having success throwing the ball. It's looked that way all pre-season long{TB / JAX / CAR}, and facing the Steelers defense wont make things any easier.....

This game hinges on the OL, and if they can play up to expectations. If we can't run however, it will be very tough to win.....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I don't think we should be surprised if we do not have a successfull running game tonight. Our O Line does not compare to their D Line unfortunately. I still stand by Ronnie's ability to make something happen however and I don't think they will be able to shut us down because they keep our running game at bay. Ronnie is phenomenal out of the back field so I am expecting screens out the whazoo. Short passes over the middle to McMichael will also stop a team from throwing so many rushers in the box and that is another one of our strong points. I am not very worried only because of the wisdom and scheming ability of our staff. I think they can handle anything that they face.
Get excited!!!!

Good luck tonight Steel. I am expecting a grind-it-out game. Our defensive front is not exactly chopped liver either. This could be a 16-13 type of game. I think both defenses will dominate early but both passing games will take off in the second half. Miller and Ward are major concerns in coverage for us. As for you guys, Chambers, Booker, McMike, C Pep et al will need to be slowed down by your tremendous rush against a suspect Miami o line.

But then again, we don't have Frerotte, Feeley or Fiedler anymore so I do not expect to see the same deer in headlights look from our offense anymore the minute we see a tough front.

Like I said, good luck.

Good point Sarnic. Let Haggans and Porter over-pursue and then drop short passes into the area they vacate. I was really surprised that Tom Moore didn't do that when the Steelers exposed the Colts porous o line in Indy.

I expect to see some passing to set up the run. Some quick hitters to McMike and screens or passes out of the backfield to Ronnie to keep their defense honest. We might even try rolling Daunte out here or there to avoid the rush.
They do have the advantage I think defensively against our Offense, but I don't think it's above being slowed down enough to have some success. Again, I think it comes down to made what adjustments and added new twists to their schemes specifically for this game and what coaching staff adjusts to those most effectively.

I also hope that Mularkey did not show his cards in the pre-season. Against Carolina's excellent front, he kept running Ronnie up the middle. I hope it was a case of not showing anything as opposed to bad playcalling. Ronnie is powerful for sure, but he also has speed and we should showcase it.

That's why I thought Suggs was a good pickup for us too. Some people wanted Najeh Davenport or Antowain Smith, but really those guys are superfluous to Sammy Morris, i.e., backs that are strong and solid but not really explosive. Yeah, Sammy is out 4 weeks, but long term, I was hoping we'd get some more juice back there, and hopefully Suggs will fit the bill. He's a threat every time he touches it when he's healthy (which unfortunately he seemingly isn't more often than not).

Our running game based on exhibition games and the Steelers D will be like sausage. It'll probably get stuffed. That's why we got CPEP. It's games like this he needs to make the difference. if this was Frerotte, we'd be saying: play it conservative, no mistakes, keep it close, etc. with CPEP we're saying: go out and win it!

I doubt that either team will have success running the ball. The difference maker in this game will be Chambers. We need to get him the ball early and often.

Just my opinion

Okay, here's the first play...put Cleo on the field and snap it to him in the shotgun. Block everyone for a two count and let them go. Let Cleo run back and forth across the field making all their d-line run 100 yards...then throw the ball away. Next play, hurry up, bang Ronnie off tackle.

i honestly think that Anderson and Hadnot can handle themselves against Hampton...exspecially Anderson because when he was with the ravens he had to go up against hampton twice a year and there run game wasnt to shabby then either (ravens)

Hopefully Cleo won't see the field this season because if he does then something must be wrong. And i can pretty much bet the farm that he won't be in for the first play.
