We all know that we will be running to ball a ton this year with the R&R railroad plus Parleme who seems to be a beast as well we are deep at RB and with an improved line that seems like they have a good sugre for the run game. I know this is an extreme case but when big ben was a rookie he had an amazing running game they ran 45 plus times a game. Now i believe that whoever wins the job come the season will benefit from this running game greatly. After a handful or 5+ yards and a cloud of dust plays more guy will creep in the box and with Glenn signing iminent he, Ginn, Hagan (who has been a huge suprise at camp im excited for him he can be a great threat if he keeps this up), Wilford one of those guys can get open and if its Ginn and 8 or so guys were in the box that means alot of open field and off to the races for him. Now i know some of you wont like the steelers comparison i am just saying that if the run game continues to develop whoever the Qb is will have a much greater chance of success. And with an overall tougher and meaner mentality we may not be good record wise but people will have to be ready for some haymakers come gameday you will know you have played a physical game and be glad to get away with your health. So i cant wait to see some GAMES mainly for the QB battle and i cant wait to see some of parleme and bees and our D finally play aganist a real Offense.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Yup, that's what i've been saying all along. A great running game relieves pressure from the QB's. It will make any QB better. It seems our QB's had a lot of problems handling the buzzer during training camp, and our running game will give our QB's extra time which will ultimately lead to big plays and big confidence.

Hopefully...

People are all up in arms over the QB battle when it really means little if anything for this year.,

The dolphins stunk everywhere last season. The new regime is deadset on building the foundation of being able to run and stopping the run first and foremost. That is the goal this year..

Once we are able to do both of those things, other elements of the team will be given more attention to in future years.. Rome wasn't built in a day,- although it may look like it was seeing it today

I was going to basically say this. Controlling the lines keeps you in the game, even if just because of time of possession.

On the mention of QBs, I think people are discounting the fact we might throw the ball over 15 yards, maybe 20-30+ times this year. Dink and dunk, possession is the name of the game. Scoring a touchdown on a 15 play drive counts for the same 6 points as scoring one on a 3 play drive.

The Miami Dolphins WILL NOT be a sexy team this year. But, if we stick with the run, and a safe passing game, and become a more fundamental team, we are looking at 5-6 wins, and laying the ground work for next year when we are playing with more of a full deck.

Agreed. I don't know why people start crying about seeing checkdowns in practice so far. At least it's positive yards and not getting plastered from blindside and coughing up a fumble. Maybe Beck learned something from last year after all. Get rid of the ball, even it it's a 4-5 yard gain, and get rid of it quick until the line provides more consistent protection. Most important thing right now is just moving the ball in a consistent manner and grind opposing teams into the ground.

I think we could surprise a lot of people if we can do both of these and stop the run on D! Which looks decent, maybe even promising!

If you average 4 yards per play, you can make a first down every 3 downs, all the way down the field.

Screen passes are just as good as successful runs. And like runs, screens can set up those mid-range passes.

Lest we forget how the Patriots became successful before getting Moss... oh and I don't mean the cheating.

Yes, we'll be a running team and yes, strong running teams can take a lot of pressure off of both the passing offense and their defense. But one dimensional teams are much easier to shut down, and if we can't make teams pay for putting 8 men in the box... well, that's a pretty sizable disadvantage to expect our young OL to be able to overcome. One of the QBs is going to have to prove he's at least mediocre, or we're in trouble.

You have to have a successful running game or at least a decent one in order to succeed in this league. Even still though, you have to have a QB that has his head on straight as well...see our disaster of a 2002 season for proof.

At least this year when we run run run and split the carries so neither Ronnie or Rickey is overwhelmed

Totally agree with that. That O-Line is very young and in-experienced and IMO will not be able to run the 45+ times a game with 8 in the box. Play action could be the key in making oppising defenses worry because if there is eight in the box it means a WR is in single coverage.

This is not going to work because a team can go into 4-3 base and put a LB in for a safety in the box. No matter how good a OL is they will not be able get any push if they face 4 DL and 4 LB in a 8 Man front. You will be a tremendous pressure on OL to hold the LOS forget any sort of push to being with. Especially if the opponets get 1 TD lead i would put a 8 man jumbo package and dare you to run.In such a front you will be asking a 230LB FB or 250LB TE to block a 260lb LB or 300 DL.

You do not even need a jumbo packages the colts put 8 man front against kansas city and they could nothing as with a 8 man front you can let your pass rushers push fast which inturn directs the running back into the big tackles.

the QB will have WR in single coverage unless you push the LB/Safety out its game over.

if you have half a brain, you know that the dolphins will be a running team. live and die like dave wannstedt would have..
