Rush was right!

No, see, Rush said he was overated because he was black. Now many people are saying he's overrated because he played poorly this year. See the difference here? It's pretty important.

In the link provided, Rush was quoted as saying that McNabb was being propped up because the media wants African American quarterbacks and coaches to do well. An African American on the show Around the Horn on ESPN said the same thing:

"Well, let's jump forward from 2003 to yesterday on this ESPN show called Around the Horn. The host is Tony Reali. He's talking with ESPN.com's Michael Smith who interviewed McNabb on TV earlier this week, and Reali says, "You know, I don't understand why this had to be about race just at the mention of a white quarterback. Brett Favre is the gold standard of all NFL quarterbacks. Wasn't he just speaking of the best quarterback in the game, Michael Smith?"

Rush - Listen to this and keep in mind what I said: "I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There's social concern in the NFL. We're interested in black coaches, black quarterbacks doing well, I think there's a little hope invested in McNabb, and the media has been propping him up." Here's Michael Smith's answer.

ESPN Around the Horn MICHAEL SMITH: It's not that he was picking out Brett Favre, it's the fact that African-American quarterbacks need more support than criticism. Donovan McNabb has enough criticism to deal with. He didn't need you picking out the gold standard of a white quarterback when everybody else is trying to take Donovan McNabb down as it is. "

RUSH: "Well said, Michael." So what we just heard was Michael Smith say that it's the fact that African-American quarterbacks need more support than criticism. Well, thank you, Michael Smith, who I think still does -- no, I think he used to write for the Boston Globe. Thank you Michael Smith. That's all I ever said, that there was a bias in favor of McNabb because they have a desire that black quarterbacks do well, so they're not going to be as stridently criticized, pure and simple -- and it has now been admitted to, even though this reporter may not realize he did that, on the very network where the original observation by me -- a brilliant one, by the way -- was made.

He was right at the time.

Donovan is a decent QB. That's all.

It shouldn't be about race and that is where Rush mispoke...McNabb is not that great as a QB and neither is Michael Vick....but I do think McNair and Culpepper are excellent QB's despite having had some tough injuries as of late. I wouldn't mind seeing Culpepper here if he is injury free and not asking for a crazy amount of money.

completely false. he said he felt the media was hyping him up because the public wants to see a black quarterback do well. he was criticizing the media more than black QBs. incredible how people twisted what he said...funny, too, though, as he sucks.

So, in other words, McNabb is overrated because he's black. See, the trick to playing semantics is that you have to use two sets of words that actually have different meanings; otherwise, it won't work.

1) McNabb is a good Qb. We should be so lucky. He's better than "decent", worse than "awesome".

And he has a lifetime rating less than two points different from Favre, by the way, Rush.

2) Even is he WAS overrated, there is no reason at all to believe it was because he was black. Is Matt Hasselbeck underrated because he's white? There are a lot of reasons players get over or under rated. Rush was just being his usual tool self and trying to make people look at him. I seriously would bet that that man's IQ is under a hundred.

It's was a dumb statement by Rush on both levels.

No, people are now agreeing that he is overated , because he played poorly this year. The reason however he was overated in the first place, IS becasue he is black. What Rush said was correct, and people are starting to see this due to his poor play.

Yes, Hasselbeck is underated because he is white, but not only that. Hes boring, blah and in a small market. Simply put though, if he was black he would get more exposure. And thats a fact jack!

Yeah, us poor white people really got it bad, man.

Yeah, thats exactly what I said.......

It's just so HARD to be a white quarterback in this league. They never get a fair shot. Everybody thinks they're worse than they are because they're not black!

My heart goes out to Tom Brady and Peyton Manning and Big Ben and Drew Brees... they've overcome such adversity to be accepted for what they can do rather than the color of their skins!

Thing is Michael Smith is African American himself

And he didnt say Mcnabb is over rated because he is black or that black QB's should get special treatment

Basically what he said is this- African American QB's dont need people criticizing their every throw because they are black, and shouldnt have to face the past before we had guys like Warren Moon, and Randle Cunningham, so on.

get it?
