Obviously, you can`t conclude a player`s future solely on college stats...Ryan made over 600 pass attempts, which is 2nd among all QB`s...he managed 31 TD`s and 19 Int`s...my biggest problem with Ryan is the dismal passing accuracy at only 59.3%...thats not going to cut it in the NFL..an NFL QB should be at 62% or better...I won`t knock the fact he only has 31 TD passes in 600 + attempts...but I`m not terribly impressed....he should also have more pass yards..now we look at Brohm...65.1% pass completion...30 TD`s and 12 Int`s...4,024 pass yards...Brohm made about 473 pass attempts..180 less than Ryan...Ryan was only 1 TD better and 480 passing yards better...In conclusion...IMO..Brohm makes for a better QB..much more polished and ready to play than Ryan. Doesn`t make a lot of mistakes and plays well within his system.

Beck`s numbers overshadow both guys....

Just to see how Beck compares...better passer rating..more TD`s, 32, in fewer attempts..only 8 Int`s...169.06 QB rating....NO RYAN PLEASE..

Where do people get this damn idea that a 59 percent completion percentage
is dismal. Not everybody is in a spread offense. Alot of very damn good Qb's have been below 59 percent.

Well lets get Colt Brennan all the way then since stats are all that matter.

59% is below average...if you can`t complete 62% or better in college..that doesn`t translate well....59% works for some, but it`s not the gold standard..

I`ll put it this way...in their last year...

Less than 62% pass completion class since 2002...

1. Jay Cutler
2. Brodie Croyle
3. Chris Simms
4. Rex Grossman

not much to sneeze at there...

more than 62% pass completion class since 2002..

1. Philip Rivers
2. Carson Palmer
3. Ben Roethlisberger
4. Byron Leftwich
5. Charlie Frye
6. Matt Schaub
7. Matt Leinart
8. Aaron Rodgers
9. Alex Smith
10. Jason Campbell
11. Vince Young
12. John Beck
13. Brady Quinn

and yes..Ryan hit 62 at one point...not in his senior year...just pointing out an obvious trend...

I would really like to see where Ryan's draft status would be if it weren't for that comeback win vs. VT on national television. Because the stats clearly don't point to him being a candidate for the number one pick. Obviously, stats aren't everything, but none of his other attributes really jump out either. His arm strength is good, but far from the best in this draft class. His accuracy is subpar as well. The biggest knock against Brady Quinn last year was his accuracy, but his completion percentages (65% as a junior, 62% as a senior) were better than Ryans. And while people make too much of a deal out of his 19 ints. (his ints. per attempts was comparable to the other top QBs) I don't see how it could simply be overlooked.

And while a QB's moxy and mental makeup certainly are important, I wonder how much different things would have been if that final pass vs. VT fell incomplete.
