The narrative coming into the season was RT and Gase were 7-1 in the last 8 games that RT played in 2016 before the injury. This year, as we were winning, it was RT and Gase are 8-1, then 9-1, then 10-1. So I decided to go back and look at how the teams were we actually beat and lost to in this stretch of games. Of the games that RT competed in 2016-2018, the Dolphins have a combined record of 10-6. But let's delve deeper into the numbers. Of those 6 loses, the Dolphins opponents have a combined record of 49-33--2. Of those 10 wins, the Dolphins opponents have a combined record of 40-84. Of the 10 wins, I would say the only good opponents that the Dolphins beat were the Titans and the Steelers. Are RT's and Gase's wins a result of actual progression? Or is it a product of playing weak opponents?

2016

New England Patriots L 24-31 (14-2)

Buffalo Bills W 28–25 (7-9)
New York Jets W 27–23 (5-11)
San Diego Chargers W 31–24 (5-11)
Los Angeles Rams W 14–10 (4-12)
San Francisco 49ers W 31–24 (2-14)
Baltimore Ravens L 6–38 (8-8)

We should have asked the NFL for tougher schedules. Oh well maybe next year we will only play winning teams.

I guess don't let facts get in the way of your argument:up:
What facts? we won 10 games with Tannehill and Gase? Not sure what you are getting at. Did you post the teams record at the time we played them? What were the injury reports at the time? You expect me to treat divisional games the same as others because no matter the teams record the competition is always there. Trying to take away from what they accomplished because of opponents record is silly. Every team plays weak teams

Against quality teams in big games Tannehill usually shrinks in the moment especially on the road:

2013 @ New Orleans spanked, lost 38-17
2013 vs Baltimore lost 26-23
2013 @ New England lost 27-17
2013 @ Pittsburgh won in the snow 34-28
2014 vs Green Bay lost 27-24
2014 @ Denver lost 39-36
2014 vs Baltimore lost 28-13
2014 @ New England lost 41-13
2015 @ New England lost 36-7
2016 @ Seattle lost 12-10
2016 @ New England lost 31-24
2016 @ Cincinnati lost 22-7
2016 vs Pittsburgh won 30-15
2016 @ Baltimore lost 38-6
2018 @ New England lost 38-7

I’m not saying these losses were solely on Tannehill, but he was terrible in a lot of these games, and in the ones where he wasn’t terrible, he was just average and didn’t do anything to lift Miami when the chances were there.

If you're gonna reach back to 2013 you need to include the final 2 games of that season. Those were the two hardest games for me to take emotionally as we only needed 1 win for a playoff spot and yet we put up a total of 7 points in two games. Heartbreakers.

I mean you can’t disagree with the numbers that are in front of our face but any QB and coach combination that wins the vast majority of the games they should is a good start. It is hard to win in the NFL regardless of what you may think. I think Mike Tomlin is the poster child, that Steelers team drops games they should win every damn season. It’s probably cost them home field and Super Bowl appearances multiple times. But hey since they are a perennial playoff team nobody notices.

I love the narrative that losses are Tannehill's fault and it's as simple as that.

Look at 2014 for example. the defense gave up 141 points in the last 4 weeks. 35.25 points per game given up.

The final game of the 2014 season, Geno Smith had a perfect passer rating against the Dolphins defense. The Jets sacked Tannehill 7 times.

Week 14 against Baltimore, Tannehill sacked 6 times, Flacco has a passer rating of 106.8.

Week 15 against the Patriots, not a good game from Tannehill, but the Pats scored 41 points.

Week 16 against the Vikings, defense gives up 35 points, Tannehill has 396 yards and 4 touchdown passes.

How about in big games, the defense usually shrinks and the offense, sans a top 5 quarterback, can't mount near-miraculous comebacks.

The problem is people say 2016 was Tannehill's best year, yet even then he wasn't putting up monster numbers. Even then we were winning ugly games. Tannehill doesn't put up 400+ yards and 4 TDs like other QBs. A good game for him is 200 something and 2 TDs with a good completion percentage. Then his numbers shrink against good competition and in big games for various reasons. So I wonder if Gase could still find ways with a similar QB. I wouldn't use 2017 to argue that because Cutler sucks.

He's never the solution or the problem. He's just the average guy that people debate about 100+ page threads for 6 years.

Even when we're winning, I'm not the biggest fan of him. But I don't hate him either. That's basically how I always feel about him.

I made the point in another thread that the majority of the wins in these last two seasons have all been by one score save one or two games. We will all certainly take the wins as they come but goddamnit it would be phenomenal if the Dolphins could kick someone’s ass for once.

While the QB is the most important player on a football team, this sport is the quintessential team sport. Everybody from the front office, the coaches and the players on the field needs to execute and do their job or you will not be a successful team. This organization has failed on so many levels for DECADES, that it is not fair to pin it all on the QB, Tannehill. On a great team he could manage games and win games for us. He is not an elite talent that can elevate the play of others and put a team on his shoulders, he just isn't. So enough with the stats of how many games Gase and Tanny have won together. Most of us couldn't give a rats ass about beating weaker opponents during the regular season. Make this team a real playoff contender and get some wins in the post season. If this regime and this QB can't lead us there, they need to be looking for new jobs.
