Here is a clip of Tannehill as a Wide receiver at Texas A&M. First time I have seen it. Hey maybe we could set up some plays where Tanny pitches the ball to a RB, and then sneaks his way into the end zone for a TD catch. :ponder: Just as long as he wouldn't get busted up. I am not sure if Miller, Ajayi or Williams are good at throwing it.

I wouldn't be opposed to it. Would be a nice trick play to have up the sleeve when a key moment during the season strikes. I guess there's a higher risk of injury but he's shown to be pretty damn durable for me to not really worry about it.

How/why in the hell did Jerrod Johnson start over Tannehill at aTm? Is there a coherent answer to that that doesn't involve just posting Mike Sherman's face?

Jerrod Johnson was a good college quarterback and had NFL potential prior to being injured. 2009: 3579 yards, 59.6 % with 30 tds and 8 interceptions. Not bad numbers for a 6-5 250 pound junior. Also ran for 500 yards and 8 touchdowns that year.

Josh Johnson didn't go to A&M, but he also had good college numbers.

Yeah I think Johnson is now in the CFL. He was 350? Damn, I don't think even that fiat NY Giant QB Lorenzen was that heavy?

Good catch - changed it to 250. Just read Johnson's bio on wiki... I didn't know his father died of a stroke during his freshman year.

Ryan's a great athlete -- and we get the benefit of the that with the read option. But as his value as a QB grows the risks from additional physical punishment have to be factored in. I say let him pick his spots to run with the directive to avoid contact -- maximizing the benefits of his athleticism (and the legit threat to run) while minimizing risk.

That said, he's more than capable of being used as a "receiver" in situations that really matter -- in game situations that warrant the exposure, like in beating the cheats or in the playoffs.

I really think Tannehill's time as a WR helped him learn to take and withstand hits, which as it turned out was a great asset to a QB drafted by a team with horrid pass pro.

He seems much more comfortable taking hits and getting back up than a lot of other QBs.

Exactly. Was about to post something very similar.

Jerrod was a great qb before injury at end of his jr year. He lit up a good longhorn defense on thanksgiving going something like 39 for 49. He is also one of the greatest leaders and all around good young man you'll ever meet. A real credit to his late father.

He was hairs breadth away from sticking w the steelers in 2013.

Oh jerrod Johnson also set big 12 record w 242 passes in row without interception. Finished Aggies career as all time passing leader, til some guy named John came along.

.

If nothing else - his receivers know that he was able and prepared to go down the middle and go up for the ball - so he's really not asking them to do anything he hasn't done before - that's extremely rare for QB's in today's NFL to be able to say.

Who was wr at the time? I mean do you play rt at qb an have a starting caliber on the bench when you can have rt start at wr an put in Johnson at qb. Getting your best players on the field is my guess?
