Yes, more has been expected of Tannehill than he's delivered since the Dolphins selected him eighth overall in the 2012 draft. But when you look back at Miami's 2013 season, it's pretty impressive that Tannehill, who played quarterback for just two seasons at Texas A&M, kept his head above water at all. The bullying scandal effectively ripped apart the left side of an offensive line that wasn't all that great in the first place, new receiver Mike Wallace and Tannehill needed time to get their deep routes together, and the coaching staff didn't always put Tannehill in the best position to succeed, and he still threw 24 touchdowns to 17 interceptions. He was one of the most effective play-action quarterbacks in the NFL last year (seven touchdowns and one interception), so of course, the Dolphins ran play-action just 14.8 percent of the time, 21st in the league. Tannehill has a way to go, but he's better than you might think he is.

Clay also made it on the list:

When free agent signee Dustin Keller was lost in the preseason with a horrid knee injury, it was up to Clay to step in, and the third-year player did just that with a career year in which he caught 69 passes for 759 yards and six touchdowns. He'll make $645,000 in the last year of his rookie contract in 2014, and the Dolphins would be wise to wrap him up with a new deal sooner than later.

I remain a 'homer' supporter of #17, but I still think Ryan Tannehill, like the other QBs from his class, has a long way to go to reach his full potential.

The big question I have with Tannehill is, how committed is he to reaching that potential? Andrew Luck eats, breathes, and sleeps football. I hear similar things about Russell Wilson. RG3, well, not so much.

But how about Ryan? What did he do this off-season to improve on the areas he struggled in during the 2013 season? Anyone?

Lazor went on to praise Tannehill’s work ethic, accuracy and ability to get the ball out quickly, saying, “He has all the zip on the ball that you need."

just google tannehill work ethic and tons of people praise his work ethic. It was all over his draft profile too

That's great, but it's pretty generic. Before the off-season began in earnest here, we had a scout come by and say that he thought Tannehill had problems throwing certain passes because of a flaw in his passing fundamentals. Did he take any steps to address that in the off-season?

I'm just wondering. When I look at Tannehill, I see a guy who has the physical attributes, has shown that he can read a defense and go through his progressions, and he's been handed the rare opportunity to succeed. So if he doesn't start to put it together, why not?

It's a question that's worth asking, given that a billion-plus dollar business that we happen to support and have an emotional investment in is essentially riding on his shoulders right now.

I understand what you mean. I thought there was an article about tannehill working in the offseason with his WRS mathews in particular, we were all upset wallace wasnt there. I'm going to look for the article

I saw Joe Rose interviewing Landry yesterday who also commented on Tannehilll's work ethic and his assuming the leadership role. IMO those 2 will have played some impressively-orchestrated beautiful music together when all is said and done.

There's that. He also came into OTA's this year heavier and stronger. I forget how many pounds but I think 11. You can see the difference in some pics of him too. However, that doesn't fix his biggest issues, but it's one more example of his work ethic.

We should have made the playoffs last year. The receivers, including Hartline had several key drops in the Buffalo game. I am amazed with the O-line issues and generic play calling, we even had a shot at the playoffs. Tannehill was a big reason why. He has proved several times in a young career he has the ability to come back and win games, which is huge! Something that was severely lacking in Matt Moores game.

I agree that Matt Moore was good at playing poorly late in the 2nd half of games we were winning and doing his part to seal our doom. However, the Jets game in NY was not one of those.

Do you have more proof of Luck and Wilson improving their game than of Tannehill?
