Just exactly how far can Ryan chunk the rock? Did anyone go back and really look at that throw to Stills? Did you notice he actually drifted back to the other side of the 50, like to the Miami 48? He just flicked his wrist and hit Stills 8 yards deep in the endzone. That's 60 freaking yards in the air and it was on a rope. He didn't put a lot of air under it, that ball was there QUICK!!! Felt almost like a quick slant where a QB puts a lot of mustard on it. And he hit him perfectly in stride. Perfect placement to a WR running full out, and he got creamed just as he let it go. When Ryan threw that ball go back and look at Stills at the moment of release. Stills was step for step with the DB. But Ryan knew Stills was faster and would be the only one that could get to where he threw it.

I have supported Ryan since he got here but there have been times early where I wondered if he would ever be a good deep ball QB. There have been several QBs that never mastered that art. I got to a point where I felt either you were good at it or you weren't. But NEVER underestimate the power of hard work. Say what you will about Ryan, but no one can argue his work ethic. He has improved every year in at least one aspect of his game. Now the deep ball is more of a strength than a weakness.

Ryan's accuracy is greatly improved as well. He seems more natural throwing the ball his year. You don't see WRs reaching back to catch the ball as much. He puts it right on them so they can keep their momentum. The 56 yarder to Parker was a good example of this. Parker just about broke it for the score. The ball was placed out if front of him so he could run through it.

Ryan and the whole team seems to be looking forward to games, looking forward to competing, enjoying the game like you are supposed to, rather than playing like it's a job. They are playing for each other and enjoying what they do, playing with the confidence that they are all on the same page, and that their coach is their leader with the answers to the whatever the other side does. WE are now the better prepared team not them. This is a fun team to watch again. Sunday's are once again my favorite day of the week.

Yep, that was a perfect throw. So were the other deep throws to Parker as well as the wheel route to Williams. No one has ever criticized the dude's arm strength. Best game as a Dolphin.

The deep ball was always such a non issue. He threw it fine his rookie year, he didn't click with Wallace and it quickly became an Omar style narrative

im not sure about this. I feel like he's gotten better every year with it and now he throws it as well as anyone for the most part. Wallaxe was a jackass but there were a lot of misses where he overthrew him badly / wide open. And Wallaxe is clicking w Flacco so who knows and I really don't care anyway. What I care about is Tanny looks like a much more accurate passer this year - and to be honest - you saw signs of it last year. I feel like he's developed the skill from when he came in. The TD to Williams - I don't think he could place that the way he did his rookie here. But it doesn't matter what we think. Fact is, he's clearly looking the part of a good QB. I'll take that.

It was an everybody narrative...or at least the h a t e r s. I got tired of the constant comparisons to him and Roethlisberger and everyone saying Ben could hit Wallace deep, Tannehill sucks, blah, blah, blah. And when he did hit Wallace in stride Wallace usually dropped it anyway...master of the basket catch...except he couldn't catch it.

It's whatever...we need to move on and just be happy Tannehill is starting to finally play to the potential he was drafted on. There's still room for growth...I don't think he's hit his ceiling yet and the last two weeks this O-line hasn't really protected him very well but having a healthy Parker and Stills takes the horizontal passing game we saw against the Jets to a more vertical one like we saw against San Diego.

I agree with all you say, but just one tweak . . . there are VERY few QBs who throw the deep ball accurately (e.g. "on a dime"). Watch most games. Watch most deep passes in those games. FEW are "accurate." Far more often the receiver has to speed up/slow down/change direction, but the QB gets credit for a "accurate" pass. I don't care if RTan makes a receiver adjust (I'd prefer they were "on a dime") - just complete the pass.

Kid can play.....he finally has a coaching staff with a brain (and balls).

I think this is the most important part of all. Can't believe we really suffered through 4 years of Failbin.

I think the deep ball problem was really overstated, but I have seen improvement in Tannehill. I think the coach they brought in last year (Saunders?) helped him with the timing as it seems like he's thrown a better ball since then.

What he's never needed to improve on is his toughness. I thought I was still watching MMA from Saturday night the way he was getting pummeled.

Ryan is making some fantastic plays this season no doubt. The TD to Stills, deep one to Parker and 1st down run are 3 in this game. It's great to see.

This will be his worst stat year and we still will be 8 and 8. Sub .500 QB.

this is very true. We all got spoiled by Marino who almost always hit you w a dime. He didn't throw jump balls. The long ball was on a frozen rope right in stride to 5'9" guys named Clayton, Duper and Moore. The jump ball / back shoulder stuff wasn't really done (receivers weren't as big then) until very late in his career and then did some of that w Gadsden. But nothing looks more awesome than a deep ball, delivered on a rope w the receiver running through it without breaking stride. I don't think anyone in the history of the game threw that pass better than Dan. I don't even think anyone was / is close. So yeah, I think we have expectations that may be out of whack w reality.

Edit - Fouts was damn good at it too.

I have always thought that RT has one of the "strongest" (hate that term because it's not all about strength) arms in the NFL. Dude can throw 55 yards in the air WHILE sprinting to his left. He's got a cannon, pure and simple.

the scramble and the throw downfield to set up the tying FG where he got killed were two BIG TIME plays.
