As you can see, after this year we have a relatively easy out.

League Entry: 2012 NFL Draft, Round 1, Pick 8 (Dolphins)
Ryan Tannehill signed a four year contract extension with the Miami Dolphins worth $77 million in new money. The contract contains $21.5 million fully guaranteed upon signing. The guarantee is made up of an $11.5 million signing bonus and his 2015 and 2016 base salaries. Tannehill’s 2017 salary is guaranteed for injury, with $3.5 million becoming fully guaranteed on the 5th day of the 2016 League Year and the balance becoming fully guaranteed on the 5th day of the 2017 League Year. $5.525 million of his 2018 salary is also guaranteed for injury and becomes fully guaranteed on the 5th day of the 2018 League Year. Miami increased his 2015 cap charge by $842,477 with the extension but decreased his 2016 charge by $4.515 million.

The details.

I'd prefer to look at it as after this year we have a relative bargain at the qb position!

Hopefully we dont need an out but overall great contract by the front office. Gave us an easy out after 2 years and if he turns it around then we got a steal. People cringe at that 20 million number but the fact of the matter is thats just starting qb money.

this is such a rough year with this contract and Suh's. We realistically can't compete in 2016

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the base salary not guaranteed?

not that bad of a deal still overpaid for avg qb. we have another year or two to see if he can improved. in the end dolphins will need draft qb to take them to next level. thill cant handle pressure when game is on line.

I laughed when people blew up about this contract. It is so easy to move on after this year if needed.

People just can't see big pictures.

Can you do the same with Suh's contract? I'd see if their is any opt out clauses and what a restructure could/would do?

Sigh.. The contract is fine.. Its market value qb who is off his rookie deal.

right, but if you cut him after this year, you're only on the hook for $6.9 million. if you do it after 2017 it's $4.6, you wouldn't pay any base salary

Oh, I see what you meant now.

His base salary isn't guaranteed for the life of the contract, it's a year-to-year guarantee based on him being on the roster for Week 1 of that season.

Can you do the same with Suh's contract? I'd see if their is any opt out clauses and what a restructure could/would do?

Tannehill's "$100M contract" was basically a two year deal to see if he can prove himself. There's no opt out of Suh's deal it's $60M guaranteed. He's either on this team, trade his contract, or the dead money for the next 4 years of about $20M would not be worth moving on from his contract. Here's his cap numbers unless it's restructured.

2015: $6.1 million
2016: $28.6 million
2017: $15.1 million
2018: $22.1 million
2019: $24.1 million
2020: $18.375 million
