Free agent safety Louis Delmas visited the Dolphins today

Free agent FS Louis Delmas is visiting the Saints on Thursday.
Delmas visited the Steelers last week, and has drawn interest from the Broncos and Falcons. With Roman Harper cut and free agent Malcolm Jenkins expected to walk, the Saints are in the market for safety help. Delmas was an every-down player for the Lions last season, but the Saints almost certainly wouldn't be counting on lighting striking twice. Knee issues limited Delmas to 19 combined games between

After missing five games in 2011, and half of the 2012 season, Delmas played every game for the Lions in 2013, finishing the season with 64 tackles, two sacks and his career-high three interceptions. The New Orleans defense could certainly use a talent free safety who might reel in a few more interceptions, and likely wouldn't balk at whatever information the former Lion might offer in a season where the Saints play the NFC North. However, Delmas has a degenerative knee condition that will likely never improve, and has only played one full season in his five-year career.

One of the few free agents who could sign a contract before March 11, given his release prior to the 2014 NFL year, Delmas is not likely in a hurry to sign a contract as he makes the rounds and gauges his value. If the Saints sign him based on an eight game valuation, he may be a great addition to an improving defense. With the current cap situation, however, New Orleans can't afford to overpay for someone whose medical history will likely rear its head again in 2014.

They are now attempting to trade him. RT @ArmandoSalguero: Free agent safety Louis Delmas visited the Dolphins today.

Going from one of the most consistent safeties to one of the most injured safeties... sounds good.

Former Lions safety Louis Delmas has seen a fair amount of interest around the league since he was released by Detroit and he followed up with one interested party on Friday.

The Dolphins could lose safety Chris Clemons as a free agent, which would leave a hole in the secondary as Clemons has started the last 32 games for Miami. If Delmas did land with the Dolphins, he’d likely slot in next to Reshad Jones when the 2014 season gets underway.

Delmas has also visited with the Steelers and there’s believed to be interest from the Lions in a return if it comes at the right price.

Delmas is from Fort Pierce, so I'm not surprised he is interested in Miami. I wouldn't be overly shocked if he signed here, but this signing just screams Gibril Wilson all over again. Hopefully not though.

Tweets with insight on Delmas from a Detroit Lions reporter...

@ckparrot all-or-nothing aggressive, positionally irresponsible playmaker with zero coverage instincts. Great leader, strong vs. set runs.

@ckparrot Schwartz used both he & Quin as safety, not really strong or free. Can't practice, knees are major issue

@mj1987us26 @ckparrot he's bone on bone in his knees. Real gamer but it's hurt his game. Lions didn't really use strong/free, just safeties

Clemons is gone. I think they should bring him back.

Nah, if your going that route keep Clemons.

Only FS I'm FA worth a damn is Byrd. I'd rather sign him or draft Clinton-Dix.

Well Delmas had 2 sacks and 3 interceptions last season(16 games)
and Clemons has 1.5 sacks and 4 interceptions in 5 years(72 games)
