USC quarterback Blake Mitchell has been suspended from the team "indefinitely", an athletic department news release said.

The announcement provided no further details.

Booking information at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where Mitchell, 21, turned himself in this afternoon, indicates he is charged with simple assault.

WISTV has reported that Mitchell was involved in an altercation in Five Points on Tuesday, which led to a warrant for his arrest.
uh oh...

As if they needed any more offensive problems.

the cynics and Clemson fans within the state have already begun saying that the "indefinite" suspension will last only thru the next two games, which are against weak non-conference opponents.

but its a far cry more than Tommy Bowden has done to thugs at Clemson in recent years though.

as for the fight, someone must've cracked on Mitchell's flailing attempt at a QB sneak at the goal line, where he fumbled into the endzone for a turnover to UGA.

Personally, I don't see the big deal.

He needs to be reminded that because of his position he can't react the way he may feel he needs to in certain situations.

Yes you slap him on the wrist and suspend him a game but barfights can happen to anyone. Some drunk idiot decides he's going to heckle the team QB and things get out of hand. I don't think a situation like this can really be a knock on someone's character.

Hopefully it dosen't ruin his career there.

Many athletes do far worse.

would your opinion change if the circumstances are as follows: Blake Mitchell was attempting to get an underage girl into the bar, and was told he couldnt bring her in by either the doorman or the manager. Blake got loud and when the guy turned away, Mitchell sucker punched. from what im reading in my local paper it was more a case of Mitchell assaulting someone than a "bar fight," and apparently Mitchell was the instigator.

Mitchell initiated a verbal exchange with Kylan Ertzberger, 19, asking if Ertzberger liked Mitchell. Ertzberger said he had no problem with Mitchell but didn’t like the fact he was trying to bring underage women into the bar. When Ertzberger turned to walk away, Mitchell punched him in the left eye.

Before I call this guy a pedafile, how young where those women?

Well, I'm assuming that is the bouncer or mgr's version of the events.

If that version is the truth then yes it changes my opinion.
Bouncers can have just as big if not bigger egos as athletes so I could see the fault laying on either side.

Guess it will just come down to the number of witnesses that back one side v.s. the other.

Either way he is guilty of letting himself get into a situation he knows he can't afford to be in.
If he did initiate it and sucker punch the guy because he wouldn't let his little hoe in the door then he's a complete friggin fool.

Pedophile?

I'd say the chances are that they are talking about underage as in drinking age.

In additon to that it's not uncommon at all for college kids to try and get their underage friends into a bar. It's not uncommon for college bars to let them in either.

Charges dropped.

Something that jumped out at me in this article.

Mitchell will be in uniform Saturday night against Wofford but won't play, coach Steve Spurrier said. The quarterback will return to the team next week at practice and be available to play against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 23, school spokesman Steve Fink said.

WTF? What are they doing scheduling creampuffs like that?

I mean what is a SEC school doing with 2 of those teams on the schedule . . . not to mention they play kentucky, Vandy and middle tennesse state also . . . man that looks like an old Miami schedule lol with Temple, Ga Southern, Rutgers and those other bottom dwellers back in the day . . difference being the SEC has better opponets than the old Big East had.
