DAVIE -- Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Daunte Culpepper is not the same quarterback he was before suffering a serious knee injury last season, and that it will take some time for him to regain his form.

"I think a lot of people assumed that because Daunte Culpepper came here that everything was going to be easy, and that's not the case," Saban said Monday when asked about Culpepper's struggles against Buffalo. "He can be a good player. He is not playing like he's capable of playing right now. He's still working his way back from an injury. His mobility is not 100 percent of what it used to be."

Saban said he believes Culpepper can be successful once he comes to grips with his limitations.

"I think he will keep improving," Saban said. "I think he can be more effective, but I think he has to understand, trust and believe in what we're doing and be decisive about his decision making. You're talking about a guy that has to realize that he's more mobile than lots of quarterbacks . . . he's just not as mobile as he used to be. He has to understand and manage that."

i agree that he didn't look as quick as he used to. the first sack where Denney tripped him up while he rolled right wouldn't have happened last year.

ready is a broad term. his arm is clearly good. most NFL quarterbacks don't have the scrambling ability he does even after the injury. You guys brought Daunte in for his arm, not his legs.

Yes, this is true.

I am ASSUMING that the only way Duante can "come to grip with his current limitations" is if he continues to play in live games.

THe article makes it sound like DC is limited permanently. He's not. He just has to learn how to play 100% until he is 100%.

YES! I love this piece. This reminds me 100% of the time last year when Saban called our recievers DECENT! Man I love this about our coach. Saban is flat out calling Daunte out, and it's time for him to respond. I honestly see a big Sunday next week out of Daunte! This will play exactlly like last year's Cleveland game. You can quote me on that, count on it! GO FINS BABY!

ah i gotcha man

Here's the sad part:
He's actually playing better now than he played last year BEFORE he got hurt.
Remember the Cinnci game. 5 INTs 2 fumbles.
Believe me I watched all of his games last year (I was at 2 of them), things could get a lot worse and it has nothing to do with his knee. Saban's just trying to cover his a s s.

BINGO.
Joey Harrington at 100% is better than DC at 75-80%

Harrington though playing for the Lions has a career completion percentage of 54.7, 60 TD's and 62 INT's

Culpepper has a career completion percentage of 64.2, 136 TD's, 89 INT's.

so you want a less mobile QB, more prone to INT's?

That's funny because after the Pittsburgh game some of DC's biggest supporters said he would redeem himself and toast the Bills.
So what if DC has a big game this Sunday against the lowly (whose our QB?) Titans.
He needs to prove that he can succeed against a good team. After all that's what all the Viking fans have been telling us, that he can't win against good teams and that he will pad his stats against all the junk teams.

He's not less mobile than DC RIGHT NOW. I would argue that playing for the Lions isn't exactly a fair measuring stick for any player. That organization is just dysfunctional.
I don't think any QB could be more prone to int. than DC is RIGHT NOW!
Operative phrase (in case you missed it) is RIGHT NOW
