Again, as expected, Brees may not be ready or worth the money he got showing once again Saban and his staff are on top of their game.
The acquisition of Martin comes amid rumors that Brees, who underwent offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum and partially torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, might be having a more difficult rehabilitation than was originally anticipated. The former San Diego starter likely will not throw at full velocity until training camp. Saints officials have been adamant that Brees will be fully recovered for the beginning of the season, but there remain some skeptics.

Both Pep and Brees had major injuries, but I feel more comfortable with a QB coming back from knee surgery then I do with one coming back from shoulder surgery. Come game day, you throw with your arm not your legs.

So what is better? Brees and Martin? Or Culpepper and Harrington? hmmmm

All hail Saban!

Look, I'm a fan of Saban and I do think he's done wonders so far. So being anti Saban is NOT a motivation for my dissention to your post.

I'm also quite happy that we got Culpepper as well so this has nothing to do with being a "pepper hater".

The bottom line is that the above news release means nothing.
The fact is that once we complete a trade for Harrington you could substitute the Phins for the Saints and Culpepper for Brees in that article.

Both teams are in the EXACT same situation at this point.
Neither knows whether the starter they traded for will be ready to play and both are having to go out and bring in starting caliber QB's to be a backup/starter as a result.

I don't see your point here at all.
There is no clear "winner" in this situation yet.
Whether we had chosen Brees or Culpepper, at this point we'd be in the exact same position.

What on earth was your point?

Danny threw for years on bad legs....but then he was Danny. Most QBs do need their legs to throw. I suspect that Pepp will need to be mostly recovered from his injury to be effective... at least 80% or so. He will need the strength to plant and follow through, and he will need the agility to evade the passrush (he doesnt have Dan's 6th sense)
Then again, I suspect Brees will need to be 100% recoverd from his injury to be effective, so Culpepper was still the wiser choice in my opinion.

We are the winner because Brees and his agent wanted to brake the bank and Saban said no. Saban got a QB for cheaper, who has a less serious injury and who may be ready before the other QB. Brees may never be 100% again and even could face the possibility of pulling a Pennington. How do you not see the glory in gloating?

I understand your viewpoint listed above and it's a good chance it's a correct one although it's not a foregone conclusion that Brees won't recover fully from his injury.

The original poster cited the fact that Brees may not be ready for the regular season and the Saints were forced to go out and find another capable starter as a result to show Saban clearly won on this.

We are in the exact same situation at this point so unlike your response, his post is pointless.

NO didn't give up a 2nd round pick like we did. Besides, if both are fully healthy I would take Brees of Pepper in an instant. Pepper will be better for Madden, but he does fumble a lot, and throw more INTs than Brees as well. Sure, we saved a few $ on Pepper, but we lost a 2nd round pick and we may or may not end up with the better quarterback after they recover from their injuries. Only time will tell, but seriously Saban didn't personally give Brees or Pepper the physical, the team doctors did, so you cannot say Saban knows Pepper will be back before Brees, because he is not a doctor.

Let me put it this way...

a Qb's strenght is his arm... he has a throwing arm injury... Brees already had average arm strenght... will it help his arm strenght?? will he still be as accurate??? or are we looking to chad pennington number whocan just lob the ball now???

An Argo fan? you would take Brees over Pep in an instant really? Was this based on what Pep did in 2004 vs Brees.
With a bad coach and less talent.
Maybe Moss can't get it done without Pep. not the other way around.

Marino sat in the pocket his whole career, no reason Pep cant sit back and launch a few.

Personally, I wouldn't take Brees over Culpepper....my reasons are two fold...One DC has a much stronger arm (when healthy). Throws a great deep ball and is just as accurate, maybe even more accurate than Brees. He set the NCAA record for completion percentage. So I'm not sold that Brees is more acurate than DC in that respect. Two, DC is much more moble (again, when healthy) than Brees which helps create many more downfield opps. When healthy, DC is as good a runner as most runningbacks. A 250 lb QB?? He's a physical specimen. Don't get me wrong, I think Brees is a good QB. But I think Culpepper is better. Otherwise I do agree with the rest of your post...

I did not cite anything as I did not write the article for ESPN. My main point was that the Dolphins were very thorough in their evaluation of Brees before throwing a ton of money at him. No where in my post did I mention Culpepper's name as the reason 'we won.'
