Saban did the right thing and I trust that he did. brees wanted to much money. so stop all the bickering and unite and get behind saban and our new qb!

Agreed...Brees obviously didn't want to be here...Nick is all about guys who 'want' to be here...Dante wanted on this team...he will bust his behind to get ready for this season...Yo Drew, congrats...now go get you head broke along with your arm...and by the way...N-O spells 'no playoffs' for you, EVER! Buh-bye!

Maybe so, but might take alittle while. He's hoping to be back before september. So much for traing camp, qb schools, etc to learn new team. Guess he'll have to learn everything on the fly. If we cut gus, then who wiil be starting opening day?

Imagine you are a defensive coordinator. Your mission is to game plan against an OC who was an nfl head coach last year. If you are able to contain the top RB from last year's draft (and possibly RW in relief), you must now cover 2 receivers that have been to the Pro Bowl, a top TE in McMike, and Culpepper throwing them the ball. If you manage to cover them, you have pesky Wes Welker in the slot, who just makes every play that he's asked to make. AND if you cover all that, did we mention Culpepper can run? (His injury is less than what McGahee had). Yeah, he averages around 400 yards a year on the ground. Oh, by the way, he's behind a Hudson Houck line that will probably include a 1st round pick in this year's draft. Good luck. Sleep well.

I guess that we wont know for another year or so. Seeing how he isn't going to be ready for a year.

you're absolutely correct!! DB was only interested in $$$$$ signs!!! Daunte not only wanted to be here but was willing to restructure his contract. I'll be rooting against Drew Brees from here on in. I hope $ is important to him because I don't see a super bowl for that team in the near future!!:tantrum:

ESPN says he will most likely be 100% that meand 100% in october what makes you think he can't practice with the team before that.

I'm hoping like hell for a Miami-New Orleans SB within the next 4 years!! For two reason:

1) It will make all those who are questioning the acquisition of Culpepper eat crow.....it's cool if you preferred Brees....but many are just knocking Culpepper.

2) It will prove all those wrong who are saying that Brees can never win anything with the Saints....this the NFL!! The f'n Bucs have won a SB...anything's possible.

Of course, the Dolphins will crush the Saints in that game (despite a courageous game by Brees)!!!

I trust Nick, I think its a good move. There's not a lot of QB's out there that can come in and start right away - really just him and Brees. And he's only a year removed from the PB. I think he'll fluorish under the structure of Saban's system, there won't be the disorganization that was characteristic of Tice, everyone knows who runs the show here. And I'm sure Gus'll restructure and stay here.

I wonder if Drew Brees was never intending for Miami to choose Daunte Culpepper. He is probably telling his agent "You told me to play hard ball and Saban would give in. Now I have to go to the darn Saints. You're Fired!" Go Saban!

Did he ??? IMO, two things that we lose is the 2nd round pick that would have been a starter for several years and now we have to pay a second starting QB for this year at least...

I love the idea of Culpepper, even tho I would have like Brees just as much. I don't know if the Fins found out something about Brees' injury or it was just the money that seperated us. That's fine...

I am totally against giving up picks tho...we lose on two accounts one being another starter for the team ( and we have many holes to fill ) and we'll likely have to overpay for an aging veteran in FA to replace that 2nd round pick in the lineup this year or we'll have to sign a never-was in hopes that he comes thru for us...

I will probably get ridiclued for this, however... does the trade for Cleo Lemon prove more worthwhile now? Could he serve as a good substitute in training camp to play the role Culpepper will step into once he is healthy?

I am thinking that Culpepper was Sabans 1st choice all along and he was low balling Brees knowing that if he accepted that it would be a bargain all the while trying to get Minny to budge from the 2nd rounder...Starting to believe it more now that it is being reported we gave up the 2nd in 07 not 06! Either way I am thrilled times to get my Culpepper jersey!

Nice thread.

I think the people bashing this move are doing so all too quickly. It is very possible we saw something in Brees' shoulder during his physical. We dont know everything that went on in the talks with these two qb's. Obviously our front office made a decision and we should stick with it.

The bottom line is that we have a new frnachise qb. People shouldnt be crying over it.

C-Pep won't be able to play until October, but he CAN practice before then. That's what jason cole of the herald said on 790 this afternoon.
