I gotta give the Nictator credit where credit is due.

BREES BLOWS SMOKE ON SIGNING DECISION

We read with great interest the comments of quarterback Drew Brees regarding his decision to sign with the Saints.

"Really, what it came down to was who I felt like believed in me the most," Brees told the Times-Picayune on Tuesday.

Bullcrap, we say.

The Fins, as we've heard it, yanked the offer to Brees and pulled the trigger on a trade for Daunte Culpepper because Drew and his agent were dragging their feet regarding the money that the Fins were willing to pay for a dude with a busted shoulder.

Technically, Brees is telling the truth. The decision did come down to who believed in him the most because the Dolphins made clear that they no longer believed in him by, you know, pulling the offer.

Here's another gem: "The Saints have made it clear from the beginning that I'm their guy they want to build this thing with, and that's really exciting."

Drew, if you're "their guy to build this thing with," your contract wouldn't contain a $12 million option bonus due in 2007. For now, they view you as a rental property. A trial run. And you get $10 million bucks to be the guinea pig.

I couldn't agree more, what gets me why wandstette wasn't smart enough to think we needed a qb instead of trading for scrubs. If wandstettes recruiting skills is as they are then look for pitt. to have the suckiest years to come
p.s. Saban is the man!!!!

in the world of sports you have to take chances and roll the dice to get anywhere

love saban's attitude and I totally agree with the other posts

Saban is masterful at lining up his deals and then using them to make a run. while drew was procrastinating, Nick was talking with someone else. No one will ever do that to Nick Saban again if they had any brains. Brees will be on the market again and all this talk of NO drafting something other than a QB is BS.

Yeah, we all said that Nick and the Dolphins will do their due diligence in this QB search and it sounds like that's exactly what they did. They made sure that they knew unquestionablly what they had in each player before making a decision, and after getting the report from our Doctors, who, with Dr. Kannell, is one of the BEST, Nick just felt, nope, he's not worth the risK "relative" to where we want to be. So long Drew, have fun being 3-13 every year.

He has shown this before .. Nick is a great negotiater.. but dont discount Mueller"s role in this!! You think he didnt love watching N. O. take the 10 mill hit? We got the better of this one folks no doubt. I think Nick and Mueller together really are some shrewd dealers.. Lets also remember that we gave a second rounder for AJ FEELY!!??!!What a difference a year Makes!.GO SABAN GO MUELLER!!!!!

The front office and Nick did exactly what I was hoping for.. set a price hold firm and if he doesnt bite move on. I really wanted to see us get Brees but I certainly didnt want to see us break the bank for him.

Its funny how you can draw analogies to things we all see everyday in real life. I handle my new hires the same exact way. (this is what the job pays.. this is what we expect from you. take a day or two to think it over and get back to me) if I dont hear from them..or they play "negotiating games" I move on and hire the next guy in line. Guess there isnt much difference asside from the money..

Brees messed up but I think Saban wanted Culpepper from the beginning anyhow. I heard something about Culpepper becoming a Phin 2 months ago. I also heard TO is coming in at the same time I heard about Culpepper. Owens with a Bonus heavy contract could pay GREAT Dividends. Imagine it Owens and Chambers hmmm. Owens could be a strong possiblity seeing as how we now have Culpepper. Culpepper throwing to him would be awesome even better than Culpepper to Moss.

oh my stars! Daunte, Chambers, TO, Ronnie Brown, McMichael, and (hopefully) Ricky Williams all on the same offense? Sounds like Superbowl dreamland to me!

In Saban We Trust!
