I thought Saban was brilliant in his first draft today.

He starts off by taking a great talent in Brown at the Fins greatest position need. Many people believe Brown may end up being the greatest player from this draft and despite all the smokescreens he gave, he ends up taking the guy who probably brings the most to the table.

Then he goes out and fulfills the goal of getting our defense younger. He takes two players who many had projected with first round grades. Roth is a non-stop motor guy who could help at DE or a hybrid OLB and Crowder brings depth to the LB position and could eventually take over for Zach.

What I like best about Saban is that he took the best available football players, not worrying about if they could help right away at a certain position, but how they will help this team down the road.

I can't remember a first day of the draft that went this well in over a decade.
A new era for the Fins began today and it's off to a great start.

No doubt. Each 0ne of these picks are instant starters. These guys will be on the field and making big contributions to this team. That alone is a far cry from the past 6 -7 years. We pick early tomorrow. I have a feeling we may pick up a few extra picks tomorrow via our next pick...we shall see. BUT, there are a few good players staring us in the face.

It wouldn't shock me to see him try and trade down from that early fourth and maybe pick up a later fourth and a fifth. I'd also like to see Zgonina get dealt tomorrow for another 5th or 6th, but that may be unlikely.

You are right, there is still lots of talent left. That's what they said about this draft, not great at the top, but lots of depth in the middle.

I will tell you one thing barring injuries nobody will be able to run on us, and potentially our pass rush will be so good that our safeties will be like the maytag repair men, they won't have anything to do.

Unbelievable first day!!!!! If Crowder stays healthy this is already our best draft since Taylor, Madison, and Rodgers.

Yep, and we have just the guy who knows where those "hidden gems" are. This is the first time I can actually say that I ENJOYED the draft. We've racked up.

People...how are we going to solve our offensive problems??????

No knock on the guys we took, but we still have major issues on offense. I thought that was a bigger priority then depth on defense.

You got that right. Just the few moves we made, coupled with our picks...our defense is gonna be like a big bully to offenses now. Our pass rush will be superb. We're not going to get run on. And I can see us creating more turnovers. The two defensive picks are INTENSE. We need more of that.
Doesn't the season start tomorrow? :D

I think spending the second overall pick will help quite a bit.

We already have a group of young lineman and I don't know there was any lineman we could have selected who's better than our current group.
Our offense has more promising young players than our defense and I believe he will continue to address some of those issues tomorrow. There are still good WRs available in 4th along with some QBs.

IMO, we had a desperate need to add depth and get an infusion of youth on that defense and he picked two great players to do that.

Lets remember....it's the first time since the first year the Dolphins became a franchise that they picked this low....it's kinda hard to screw up the 2nd pick in the draft. Lets also remember before we all die of happiness...that Ronnie has great potential...but he hasn't proved he can carry a team for a full season...especially a team with a O-line that hasn't done much from last season to improve...nor have we improved at receiver.
Nice start....but until it's proven hard to say a great one.

You're absolutely right. I think from here on out Saban is thinking offense first. BUT, if someone falls.... But generally I think he'll look at OL and possibly Lefors....

Guess not.

We could have had Barnes at Left Tackle...at least he's a left tackle...I don't know what we have now.

Since Matt Roth played linebacker in 2001, I think that Nick is going to move to him to left side linebacker as a pure pass rusher. Forget about Donnie Spragan, he will play special teams.:nate:

He could use him at linebacker...he could also be Jason's future replacement...like Crowder is Zacks future replacement.
