I am a strong Daunte Culpepper supporter. I have been defending him over the previous weeks and still support him to this day. I do not find his actions to be selfish, but more competitive.
That said, after seeing how Harrington did against New England, I am in agreeance with Nick Saban on his decision to keep Harrington as our starter. I am not a Harrington supporter, but I do think he has potential and can carry us while we mend our wounds. The best thing is for Daunte to approach this new rehab program with a positive attitude, which I think he will. He is a competitor and will do whatever is neccessary to be able to compete.
The move that Saban made was by no means an easy one to make. It is basically like waiving a flag that says, "HEY, I WAS WRONG!". He knows now that Culpepper isn't ready to play and he is making the right moves to get him ready. He obviously knew this was a possibility, otherise we would be playing Cleo Lemon. Saban covered his tracks months ago for this moment. If we had Wanny in this circumstance, we would still be starting Culpepper because Harrington would be playing for the Raiders, and we would probably have signed AJ Feeley again after San Diego cut him.
I am giving a lot of credit to Saban right now. Things are definately not going as he would like them to. But at least he had the foresight to think that maybe things wouldnt go right, and he prepared for the worst.
As for us fans. It's a tough road to be on right now. But I'm proud to be on it. I'm not really sure why it feels so good to be a Dolphan today, but it really does. I guess its a reinstilled sense of direction and leadership that we felt that we lost over the last month. But it was there all along and we need to remember that.
I can't imagine how Saban must feel when he sees dropped punts, tipped INTs, blocked kicks, offensive penalties, and missed field goals all in one game. There isn't a gameplan out there that can make up for those kinds of mistakes all in one game. And dont forget the fumbles, dropped passes, and "pass interference" calls. If we had Bill Parcells, we would have at least 5 empty spots on our roster this morning. But Parcells is a looney old fart who believes his own hype.
Next week is looking to be a good matchup for us. The pressure is off of us and right on top of the the Jets. It must be hard to trick the NFL into thinking you're good by calling onside kicks and going for it on forth down to make a close game out of the Colts and then put up a goose egg against the Jags.
Week 11 VS Minnesota
Week 12 @ Detroit
Which of these games will be a homecoming for our starting QB?
