Say what you want about saban, but he will stand behind you if you play for him, he was pissed about how they treated harrington in his press conference, no wonder why guys want to play for him

Somebody has to tell them what's up. Their owner is obviously not competent enough to know when to get a new GM...Millen should have been fired 4 years ago, IMO. The Detroit Lions will always be failures as long as Matt Millen is calling the shots. This has been common knowledge amongst most NFL fans for some time now. I actually liked watching them when they had Barry Sanders...the best RB of all-time, IMO...but I never got a chance to see Jim Brown play and I heard that he was basically a marvel of modern science. So my opinion is somewhat uneducated when you consider the old timers. I actually feel bad for the Lions fans. I also respect the ones that have been Detroit fans their whole lives. It would take a true fan of their team to go through all of that turmoil every season and still put on the silver and blue every Sunday.

What happened? Who said what?

It was the fans he was raking over the coals, not the Lions organization. This was already a topic on here. His comments were in response to the jeering that Harrington was receiving. And, they sounded very similar to the kinds of comments he's made about Dolphin fans booing.

That's not the conclusion of pretty much all the media who were there listening to the whole press conference. The all think he was criticizing the Lions organization. Saban even prefaced the comments with something like "now I'm not criticizing another organization", the normal interpretation of which is, "I'm criticizing another organization but I don't want to get in trouble for it".

As much as I appreciate loyalty - Who gives a crap how the Lions organization is run? I am personally hoping Matt Millen and the Ford family run that program much like it has been run for the rest of time. Trade Roy Williams to Miami for a 6th rounder. Trade us their first round pick for Marcus Vick... Whatever...

Just my 2 cents...

Personally, I think Piano man should be played for motivation whenever our players are introduced at the rest of our home games this year

Saban should be giving the back handed comment to both fans and organization. Fans for booing Joey; the organization since they were classless towards Joey. And as far as the Millen remaining in D'Troit I am all for it as well. Poorly-run organizations are needed to be taken advantage of. And yeah Roy Williams would look good in aqua and orange!!

Actually my favorite quote before the game was Adam Schein calling this game the Rick Spielman bowl and picking the Dolphins to win by virtue of the fact that Rick Spielman was now on the Lions running them into the ground. Maybe Rick will trade us Roy williams for a toaster or something...

Perhaps this incident gives Miami fans an inkling about what Joey had to endure during four long years in a Lions uniform. Joey was constantly railed on by the fans, the media, and even by some of his teammates, not to mention his coach, who never showed him an ounce of support. For some inexplicable reason, they blamed Joey for all of life's problems and were constantly calling for him to be cut, but when Joey finally asked to be traded, they hated him even more for that, I think because he initiated and brought it about himself. They would rather have had him crying and being fired and never playing again. I think it kills them that he get kept getting back up and taking more of their punishment, and that he finally left on his own terms and now he is currently starting somewhere else, so quickly after being traded. They still constantly talk about Joey and as you see, they still think and plan about how to publicly run him down. I have always likened them to a spurned ex-boyfriend.

I have asked many Detroit fans what their issue is with Joey and have never received a coherent answer. Some say its because of the investment that the team placed into drafting and signing him. He was the #3 overall pick and got a pretty hefty contract, althought the real cap hits didn't come until his last two years. The inconsistency here is that Charles Rogers was an eve higher pick (#2 overall), and an even bigger waste of money because he never even played most of the time he was with the Lions, and yet there is none of this same loathing for him.

There is so much ground here for psychological exploration, someone ought to write a book. I mean, for a guy who is supposed to be such a bad quarterback, he has far exceeded his share of media attention. He is a very polarizing character. People love him, people hate him, and he generates conversation wherever he goes. If he ever begins to have consistent success in the NFL, it will almost be an anticlimactic event, although somehow, I still think people will always argue about whether or not he is a quality QB.
