… or their meal ticket?
Just saw nick on "coachspeak" on NFL channel I had to laugh my *** off at how overly defensive he was today. Man, was he a grump or what? I love it though. Truth be told I'm a former reporter now in the trade press. It's because there aren't enough Sabans out there that I didn't pursue my first love: Sports writing.
Like everybody else, I wanted to be a columnist, but didn't want to spend my first 15 years sticking a tape recorder under some black-eyed hockey player's chin listening to "We have to give it 100 %... We have to work harder against the boards. We have to..bla bla bla."
The media, in their best high and mighty elitist voice, may criticize Saban's standoffish manner in print (especially if they start losing), but behind closed doors they giggle like a bunch of schoolgirls at an NSync concert that they get to cover this guy instead of, say, wanny or Tony dungy.

I figure Bill Parcells has to be the most fun and embarassing to cover. He's always great for a soundbite. And he'll shred you if he thinks you're asking a stupid question.

Yeah. he's a challenge. But I think Billick and Herm edwards are the most fun..although the latter's schtick can wear thin fast

Bill Parcells is definately one of the best! Also Bobby Knight is another great one!

Jerry Glanville had to be great as well.

"playoffs........PLAYOFFS" - Jim Mora

his teams sucked, but that still makes me laugh

Jim Mora- with things like "We didn't do diddly-poo on offense. We couldn't stop them on defense. We sucked". And the classic "PLAYOFFS???????!!!!!" RANT- those were the funniest I've ever seen.

... but none of the above mentioned people is/was anywhere near as outwardly disgusted and indignant toward the Media as Saban... maybe Parcells, maybe.

The most hilarious thing is how the line up for more abuse every time. They hate they guy, but he's got to be great to cover... if you don't mind being publicly humiliated and chastised every once in a while, of course.

Saban is freaking hilarious. This guy is a true original. I hope he stays around a long time and is successful. He's going to be fun to watch as coach.

how is he the media's worst nightmare?

ratings on local cbs and fox statsoin are through the roof. he is helping their bottom line out alot.

I don't think he hates the media, his TV show is pretty good.

I think it's a combination of things. He seems a little uncomfortable with the media I don't think he's shy, but he definitely seems uncomfortable.

The other thing, the sports writers and some of the sportscasters in Miami are not really football fans. They're not knowledgable about football, and they don't seem to care to learn. All they care about is the shallow crud stories or 'human interest stories' which are even worst. :fire:

The Dolphins players especially the stars on the team IMHO are too affected by the media. (Zach and Taylor). They should know better and stay above the bs...
