While Frerotte and Feeley struggled, third-stringer Sage Rosenfels threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns against reserves in the second half. New Miami coach Nick Saban didn't rule out giving Rosenfels the starting nod for the season opener Sept. 11 against Denver.

"I was pleased with the way Sage played," Saban said. "It looked like he had some command out there and did a good job. Those things are factors that need to be taken into consideration. ...

"We want to pick the quarterback that's going to give us the best opportunity to win. I'm not prepared after watching that game to make a statement about that."

I dont want Ferotte to start at all...He is supposed to know the offense and Aj still makes too many mistakes...Im not going just off tonight performance but I'd rather let Sage start the first four games and see how he does...If he does bad then let Feeley play the rest...you never know Sage could prove that when he does good in preseason it wasn't just because he was playing 2nd and 3rd stringers

He'd be stupid not to consider Sage at this point. The two morons in front of him have done NOTHING to earn the right to start. Sage CAN NOT do any worse.

If he considers Sage as the starter then Nick's stay in the NFL will be short.

Sage started against Baltimore last year and promptly threw a bomb to Chambers for a TD. He didn't fair too well for the rest of the game, but it was against perhaps the best D in football over the past five years. Plus, it was like his first start ever. I don't think he starts unless this team goes completely in the crapper and they want to see what we have for next year. However, I wouldn't be surprised if he moves up to second.

He should at least have had the oppurtunity to compete with the other 2 guys for the starting job.

Would losing with feeley behind center make it any longer?

X factor is Sage. Never know if a guy is going to show up in a game consistently different than he does in practice. We've only really seen him in one game. I've seen enough actual game footage of Feeley to close the book on him (for now) and it is possible Sage could surprise us and be better than Gus but that's like a man falling off a cliff grasping at a tuft of grass.

I'm all for Dave Ragone.

Saban has a mess on his hands this year with the qb situation, but hopefully by mid-year we can get the offensive clicking... i just don't seee that happening till gamev6 or later... so at this point i think he must be considering even the cheerleaders with the way these guys have played ( except for sage tonight)...

Its too late. Should have gave him a shot earlier.

Exactly. Which is why Saban would be a fool to consider him.

Is that right? Well, tell me Sage can do worse than dumb and dumber. He can't. It's not possible. We're gonna suck at QB no matter what this year. Start Sage and see if he can at least help us get a 1st down every now and then. No matter who starts this year, it'll only be for one year anyway. So why not?
