This post is intended to keep everybody's thoughts in relative perception. Granted we came into this year with very high expectations, but lets look at those in Saban's class of new head coaches in the 2005-2006 NFL season.

Romeo Crennell, Cleveland Browns, 2006 1-5

Mike Nolan, San Francisco 49ers, 2006, 2-4

Nick Saban, Miami Dolphins, 2006, 1-6

I believe that the Browns were something like 6-10 or 7-9 last year and that the 49ers were 5-11 or so.

Given that we were 9-7 last year, and then a look at our current record, should we REALLY be calling for Saban's head?

Amen

I agree, we shouldn't be after Saban. In this league, a coach needs a few years to get things started and get their own system under way. This whole "deliver in 2 years or your gone" mentality needs to go the way of Howard Dean. Outta here.

But, what you will probably here from the Anti-Sabanites is that Saban clearly inherited a better team then San Fran and Oakland, which is why they want him gone. If he can't deliver with such talent, he should be fired.

To which I respond with, oh yes. All that "talent" Dave and Rick brought in?

Keep dreaming.

Mularkey's gotta go.......he's as bad as Joe Collier (2004) and probably worse than Kippy Brown. Who calls 62 pass plays with a second string quarterback versus 15 runs with someone who had 4.4 ypc last season? Its not like we don't have the weapons, if we played a more balanced game on offense, we would have easily handled Green Bay. Should-coulda-woulda once again for the Dolphins, I'm tired of it! :(

Umm..look at this team, there are no rookie starters, none that are contributing much. I believe there are two 2nd year players starting. Where are the building blocks on this team?
Both Cleveland and SF have their share of younger players and building blocks.
Miami is in for a long nightmare for a few more seasons.

You know, you have a point. This is an excellent idea. If we keep comparing Saban and this Dolphins to the worst teams in the league, he and the Fins don't look quite so bad. Comparing him to the worst teams in the league? Brilliant!

Oh crap...those teams both have young teams with young QBs getting some valuable playing time. Yeah, this idea isn't going to work. Both of those teams are poised to improve over the next few years...and we are still going to suck. Good try though. Lets find the record of June Jones and Kevin Gilbride. Surely we can make Saban shine comparing him to those guys.

Exactly. All of us SMART fans know this is Dave and Rick's fault. Damn them. Hail Saban!

I'm all for firing Mularkey...he's an asshat

Exactly. 23 games isn't enough for a head coach to do anything with all that talent that Dave and Rick brought in....but 7 games is MORE than enough for an OC to improve with all the talent Dave and Rick brought in. Makes perfect sense to me....and not the least bit hypocritical. Fire Mularkey. Hail Saban!

It is too early to call for Saban's head, agreed. Comparing the present situation with Saban and the team to these other coaches and their organizations tells you how far we sunk BEFORE Saban even got here. We had more talent D for sure.

And y'all know what we are still technically a top 10 defense, #6 per the NFL's own website for stats. The issues have always and still are mostly on the offense. Yeah we got weaknesses on D and age is creeping up on significant contributors. But, the biggest issues are OC, OL, and yet to have a true franchise qb.

So far the Saban regime has failed mostly on the offensive side of the ball. The OL MUST be more than adequately addressed in the offseason with both FAs and draft picks. And yeah Mularkey is still on this fan's s&^*( list and careful consideration for his dismissal by the end of the year IMHO.

I truly am a believer that ownership of any team needs to give a head coach three years to accurately and fairly assess the direction he is taking the team. By next year if there is not significant improvement and the same problems come up again and again and I agree that Saban AND Mueller will at least need to be re-evaluated by Wayne H.
