Stop with all this "smoke screen" garbage. People don't often care that much who other teams take - they have a plan to deal with this sort of thing. If their top player isn't available, they take whoever is next on their list. People have to stop treating Saban like he's some kind of mastermind.
Take last year. Running back was a Jupiter-sized hole on the Miami Dolphins. Ronnie Brown was among the best available running backs, through three high-caliber running backs were coming out. If not Brown, there was Cedric Benson. If not Benson, there was Carnell Williams. Miami would, without a doubt, be filling its hole at running back. Frerotte was signed and would compete with Feeley for the starting quarterback (well, in theory). Wide receiver was the most talented position on the Dolphins offense - it would make no sense to draft Braylon Edwards. Romeo Crennel knew this, and I'm sure most other coaches do as well. What did we get out of it? Nothing, aside from some animosity from Braylon Edwards. If we're lucky, we'll get some animosity from Vince Young as well.
Again, this is a pathetic attempt at a "smoke screen" since we just traded for our supposed quarterback of the future. Nobody expects us to take Vince Young since it would be a boneheaded move. Young hasn't changed his status as a top ten pick. The chances of him falling to #16 are next to none, and if somebody were to trade up they wouldn't trade with us - they would trade with somebody who actually has a shot at Vince Young. If Vince Young were available at 16, I think many coaches would take their chances that he would be available at 17 because of Miami's situation. I don't think anybody would take Vince Young simply because we worked him out. Do we care who the Broncos take? Who the Steelers take? No. Why should we? Why on earth would a team take somebody they don't want or need simply because they might believe - even if it were logical - that somebody below them would take him. Why would they care?
