My first thoughts on the cuts were "I can't believe this guys is gone," "I wonder who we'll pick up," etc. After my initial thoughts, I have sort of gone to the next level of deep thought. Beware!!:D

Nick Saban is changing our team. If there is one theme with the guys who suprisingly made our team it is that they are willing to work hard and have, for the most part, not made mental mistakes. Also, these are guys that can are useful at different positions or are helpful on special teams. Derrious Thompson and Donald Lee stand out as guys that have made mistakes and do not have the mental toughness Saban seems to highly value. Sure they have skills, but they have been replaced with blue collar guys that will play within their means.

The most versatile guys on the team are linebackers. They can rush the quarterback, cover receivers, stuff the run, and contribute on special teams. In hindsight it's no surprise that Saban decided to carry so many. Expect us to play a lot more 3-4 than Saban has suggested thus far.

In short, we are becoming the Patriots. Look at their roster and try to find one guy who is an underachiever. I can't find one. I suspect in the next year or so we will be the same way.

Who does this not bode well for?? I would say, off the top of my head, guys like Feeley, Eddie Moore and Stockar. They don't play Saban-style football, so I would guess that their time here is limited.

How do you classify Eddie Moore with those guys? Injuries have prevented him from playing.

Injuries are part of the equation. The guy doesn't represent value to the franchise if he can't stay on the field. I honestly think all 3 of those guys benefitted from a general lack of depth at their positions.

I frankly don't think this team is becoming the Patriots -- it's becoming better than the Patriots. Look at the garbage BB has picked in his past several drafts and know it is coming back to haunt that team. I'm not sure that Nick is the coach and recruiter of assistants that BB is, but I trust him a lot more with the GM side of things based on the moves that have been made.

Here's an article that kind of relates to the thread.

Here's the one paragraph about it:
The Miami Dolphins cut their roster to 53 players on Saturday, but coach Nick Saban didn't sound like a guy who planned to stay pat.

"The roster that we have today may change tomorrow," Saban told reporters. "It is what it is for right now."

It doesn't seem like he's happy with the current roster, he probably wants to cut a lot more people but he doesn't have anyone to replace them with. As the years go on, Saban will finally have a team filled with the players he wants.

They are somewhat overrated on drafting. They take players far too early often, but they are the Oakland A's of football. They draft based on performance players with reasonable upside.

David Terrell.

Besides that, why does everyone have to compare Saban to the Patriots.

With the main difference being that the Patriots win come playoff time.

Agreed. So long as he stays healthy

The post is referring to his ability when healthy. Obviously, no team is going to stick with a player who is repeatedly out of the game due to injury. This is his last chance I think, though.

I've had a couple of head -spins on Saban's choices of people to keep and get rid of, When I seen he let Surtain go,I didn't know what to think, and he still has me guessing a lil...but I guess we have to have faith and wait to see if there's a method to his madness....

I think Moore will be fine. He is so quick and will be a nice pass rusher from the 3-4. I guarantee that! That guy just needs to stay healthy, he is a good athelete.
