mistake, in my opinion, was letting the secondary go from very decent to very mediocre. My biggest problem with his regime was his letting go of Patrick Surtain, even though Pat was not the corner he had been in the previous years, when Saban let him go he had only been on the down slope for one or two years. Pat would have been a great mentor Jason Allen and Travis Daniels. All teams need a good corner, and he was ours, plus he was a good person.

sorry about the bad post my pc went a little haywire and wasn't letting my space bar and other keys work.

i agree, we are def lacking one pure #1 corner, i mean will allen is a great corner IMO but he should be more of a #2 corner which is not a knock on him at all because i think we would have a great secondary if he was to be our #2, signing a guy like nate clements or asante samuel would help our team out soo much that it really should be our biggest goal this offseason as far as free agency......as for the offense i believe should be built more throughout the draft and hopefully signing one big name offensive player if the price and situation is right

04 he had 4 picks, 03 7 picks and the PB, 03 6 picks and the PB...His down slope was only 1 year, but in 04, the entire team was a downward spiral...I would have liked to see roth become more effective and get more playing time though with the pick we used for Surtain. I miss his shut down ability

His worst mistake was pretending Daunte Culpepper could ressurect this franchise.
He had little choice in letting Surtain/Madison go, they were taking up tons of cap and were not nearly as good as they had been.

:yeahthat: Saban's biggest mistake was taking Brees over Culpepper and he knew it when he saw Brees taking the Saints to the playoffs while Culpepper is still a huge question mark. The QB is the most important position in the team and with out a QB we can't win. I think Saban knows he made a major blunder by taking culpepper and that's why he quit.

He said that too..."With the QB issues we have"..and that ****** gave us the QB issues we have... **** you Nick

I'm sure he did say that. It's easy to admit he's was wrong when he's not here anymore. There was no way to tell if Brees was going to come back to form the way that he did but when he took Culpepper he should have got a better insurrence policy than Joey Harrington.

Im not even gonna say we should have taken Brees over Cpep, but once the med team didnt sign off on Brees we should have just taken our second round pick into the draft.
Should have kept Gus on the team as an interim starter and look to possibly make a draft day trade for a sliding QB, which they did.
Hopefully a new coach will rectify this and take a franchise guy early. Its time to seriously address this without just slapping band aids on and praying they hold.

Saban NEVER admits he's wrong. He always find someone else to blame.

Saban made alot of mistakes but trading our 2nd for a gimp was a big one.Joeys not the answer but he looked way better than SaltnPepper and we didnt give up much for him.But Sabans biggest downfall was never admitting he screwed up when we all knew he did.Just let Pepper go he will never be the same especially if we have to pay him 9mill next year.We cant get to the SB with our QB on his arse can we?

I think that figured largely into the equation. HIS pick at QB is eating up tons of cap room and there is no way out of that box. The only way that Saban could win is if CP could win and I don't see that happening.
