If you really want to go shopping this season and fill a number of holes now you could sacrifice a portion of next years draft and go for it now. Simply trade Miami's first round pick in 2017 to St. Louis for the 43rd and 45th pick this year. You could then strike a similar deal with the Eagles, sending them Miami's 2017 second round pick for their two third round picks this season, numbers 77 and 79. Those two moves would leave Miami with the 13th pick, 42nd, 43rd, 45th. 73rd, 77th and 79th selections in the first three rounds of the 2016 draft.

That haul should produce three starters and four additional contributors right now. Not to mention Miami would still have picks in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th to select project players. I know a lot of people hate the idea of trading future early round draft picks, especially in a draft with some good running backs like the 2017 draft appears to be. However, by taking a chance now maybe one of those three second round picks, with the benefit of a years coaching and experience could prove to be a greater talent than some of the projected 2017 first round draft pool.

Heck if you wanted to you could still trade back in the first round this year and add a second or third round pick in this year's drat or in the 2017 draft to help recoup the future second round pick you traded away earlier.

If Miami did trade back and recoup a pick for next season, this years draft could produce:

Running back Derrick Henry, with a draft pick in the mid 20's. (Or if you prefer you could draft ilb Reggie Ragland and maybe spend one of your three second round picks on a rb like Alex Collins)

Corner Eli Apple, could be available in the second round

D. End Shaq Lawson

Guard Cody Whitehair

Linebacker Deion Jones

Safety Vonn Bell

Guard Joshua Garrett

And that's just in the first three rounds. With other five picks you could add receiver depth (Carro), take a shot at linebacker like Jaylon Smith, add a project corner (Sean Davis), add a tight end (Tyler Higbee) or maybe draft a third down back (DJ Foster).

I think Miami is stock-piling comp picks for a reason and I don't think there's any sense of urgency to win THIS year. No chance of trading next year's picks.

i like the logic of this and it would be nice to have alot of picks this year i just cant see us giving away draft picks. but again look how is in charge so this may just happen. look what he did with the Jets........

If you traded the 13th pick for a pick in the mid 20's as I proposed above you could recoup the second round pick we would trade for the two 2016 3rd round picks. That would still leave Miami with a 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th, 6th and 7th round pick next year, not to mention the compensatory picks for losing Miller and Vernon. So basically for giving up next year's first round pick we make out like bandits this year.

I know a lot of people hate the idea of trading away future picks, but to me a second round pick in 2016 that you can coach and get a year's worth of NFL experience could be worth as much as mid first round pick in 2017. So if just one of the two second round picks you acquire develops it could be worth it. If they both strike you're dancing in the streets.

I highly doubt they'd make those trades. At all. Typically, if you look at the history of trading future picks, the cost is extreme.

As in, a high 2nd round this year costs typically NEXT YEARS FIRST

I hate to be that guy, but this has madden delusions written all over it.

The thing is that this is the way I build the dolphins into a dynasty when I play madden every year lol.

No disrespect intended but I highly doubt anything like this will happen.

Mortgaging the future to fix past mistakes will only lead to more misery imo.

You really don't want that many rookies on a roster, nor do you want that many rookies starting.

And unless your trading for a Von miller type prospect or a QB, stay out of the trading future draft picks business.

Maybe if this was a really strong draft but its not a great draft and it really wouldn't be that great of an idea to do those trades even if it were possible to find d that many willing trade partners

If Apple is gone you could still settle for Mackensie Alexander or Xavier Howard in the second.

I admit it sounds like a Madden type draft, but you're really only losing the 2017 first round pick and moving further back in the 2016 first round to get Henry or Ragland, a position of need at a decent value.

Are the trades unlikely? Maybe, but most of our trade idea's and mock drafts here will never happen. It's just a daydream and my way of looking at the draft outside of the traditional box.

I just think whenever you place draft names in a scenario like this, it becomes less reasonable.

We slid back 5 spots because many believe this draft is maybe 5 deep with "top tier" and what you grab at 8 will be similar to 13. Not a fan of giving up that for Henry or Ragland Tbh . . . Which IMO is a step down from whatever we choose at 13.

It definitely is Maddenish because it gives a scenario that doesn't factor in consequences of guys being gone or being unable to make these trades work. That Cb run could go much earlier than anticipated.

I admire the suggestion, but I wouldn't do this. Barring an incredible job from Gase, next year's picks are likely to be valuable ones and this team is one Tannehill injury from picking #1 overall in the draft next year.

Giving up a first and second in next year's draft is risky when your team doesn't have the depth to sustain the injury bug.

I don't know what causes me to scratch my head more, a thread suggesting this, or the fact that so many seem to think it's a good idea.
