Since we are still looking to sign a Safety any thoughts on the availability of Sammy Knight released by the Chiefs?

Played well in Miami and with the Chiefs, I guess he got too expensive for Miami, maybe he will have a reduced price now.

one-time Pro Bowl performer who ranks third in interceptions among active players

He's just 31, we just signed Porter whose 30.

In 10 seasons, Knight has 939 tackles, 38 interceptions, 43 passes defended, nine sacks, 12 forced fumbles and 13 fumble recoveries. He has appeared in 158 games.
Originally signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 1997, the former Southern California standout began his career as a special teams player, but he quickly emerged as one of the NFL's premier playmakers at safety. With an uncanny knack for authoring the timely takeaway, Knight has registered five or more interceptions in five different seasons. He has four interception returns for touchdowns.

How about yes to a young guy then?

Why didnt we sign the Bears Todd Johnson?

Johnson 6'1" 200 4-years
Knight 6'1" 200 11-years

I would have rather signed Johnson but the Rams got him, besides Porter, who it seems no one else was interested in and Miami was quick to throw a buttload of money at, did we out deal from another club then sign ANY free agent players we targeted?

Sammy Knight is not too old, as I pointed out he's 31 and we just signed Porter whose 30 so that excuse doesnt fly.

If we can get him for a short term, then I'm all for it.

Sammy Knight is as slow as last week's molasis. That is why he was released the last time he was here and that's probably why KC, with their underachieving secondary, let him go as well.

At this point in their careers, Hill and Bell are better.

Sure, short term is OK with me and at a cheaper price than he was due from the Chiefs.

Bottom line is despite age or speed Knight makes plays, passes defensed, INT's, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, tackles.

"Slow as last weeks molasses"

Whatever, that was his knock before he got to Miami and he still is in the NFL and making plays so that's absurd.

Knight, 31, becomes an unrestricted free agent and figures to draw considerable interest from other teams, even in a market where more than two dozen safeties remain unsigned. One of the league's top ballhawks in his prime, Knight probably has lost a step over the past couple of seasons, but he remained productive in 2006.

Sammy Knight is more like a 4th or 5th LB. Meaning he plays well the closer to the line of scrimmage he is. The last time Sammy was here, he had a total of 3 passes defended in two years. Yeremiah Bell had 13 passes defended last year.

If you are looking for that safety who can be an extra LB then Sammy Knight is what you are looking for. If you want a safety that is more well rounded, then Sammy Knight is not what you are looking for.

Any insight on why we didnt sign Todd Johnson from the Bears?

He just went to the Super Bowl from a pretty good defensive squad, only been in the league 4-years, sounded like an upgrade, did Miami make an offer?

We need a starter, does anyone believe we'll find a starter through the draft for 2007?

And it's not like he's gotten any faster in his time away

Devin Hester has world class speed and he's not a starter in CHicago.

Speed isnt everything if you cant play the position well enough to start.

Sammy Knight could start right now. We have starters from last year we seem to not want so STARTING since were trying to upgrade who is the answer?

The draft?
