I love Nick Saban and everything he has done so far, the draft especially proves why he is the right guy at the right time in the right situation. Anyone who bashes Saban is a moron.

but

Not starting Sage is a huge mistake, win or lose. This team has momentum to build on now. Confidence is high and we need to roll, roll, roll to at least try to win out and make the playoffs. If we start Gus and dont make the playoffs what a waste. If we start Sage and dont make the playoffs, we at least see what this guy is like as a consistent starter. And this guy seems to get Chambers more involved. Gus and Chris have zero chemistry and that is something I have said all along, even though I have supported Gus the whole way.

PLEASE NICK, START SAGE.

Sage also had a HORRIBLE game against cleveland.

one good game versus one bad game. not really a "definite" situation if you ask me. Plus, Gus wasn't playing that horribly when he was sacked for a safety... the o-line was horrible and WRs were dropping balls. Sage played great, but he was helped by a Sam Madison INT that turned the tides, and an o-line that decided to start to mesh and protect the QB. Just look at how much time Sage had to throw the ball versus how much time gus had.

besides, gus hasn't done anything to LOSE the job of recent.... so lets stick with the plan.

Yep

Sage only had time because of the bills prevent defense, Gus could have made all those throws and probally not thrown the pick to the D end

12 for 28 and 115 yards. thats pretty bad.

but we are not going anywhere with Gus, if Sage plays we could find out about him, if he plays well could he be of good trade value maybe, could he even emerge as a good QB, who knows? lets at least see

and no turnovers....

don't forget sage had all day to make throws back there, Gus rarely was able to complete a 3-step drop.

stop stat-chasin' and start watching the game guys.... you need to do that before you can be qualified to call for position changes.

thats not really my point, i am saying we should at least see what Sage has got as a consisten starter and we have incentive to do this because of the momentum!

the cleveland game was a disaster but lets give him a week to week chance for four weeks

I think that Gus puts us in the best position to win football games. He's the veteran and the starter who's been in situations like this before. Sage played an incredible game vs. Buffalo, but i highly doubt he has a better chance of duplicating that success than Gus Frerotte the real QB of the team.

The coaches see him play 3-4 days a week at practice... i am sure they know what he is capable of. Sage has shown his good, but he has shown his bad. We don't need a whole season to judge. This is reminiscint of AJ Feeley - after two games we know what we had, yet everyone cried to leave him starting all season to see him "develop." he won't.

Sage is NOT a rookie. he is what he is. He had a great game, but he was the beneficiary of many factors that went in his favor.

1) He was not the starter - the Bills studied and played to beat Gus
2) He came in the 4th quarter. It was 90% pass play-calling which will yield better stats.
3) prevent defense. The Bills had been blitzing Gus all game... by the 4th quarter they dropped back
4) forced turnover. When Gus was in, we had no breaks. When Sage came in, we had a huge turnover in the endzone... momentum shift.
5) o-line blocking. the o-line was COMPLETELY out of sync when Gus was in, we had 3 false-starts IN A ROW. There was only one offensive line penalty when Sage was in.

i am sure there were many more things, but i am not a coach so i probably missed them. the bottom line is Sage played well, but don't be blinded by the stats... there was some situational factors there that inflate the #'s and make Gus look worse than he is.

I trust Saban's call here - he obviously sees more positives out of Gus than Sage during practice. Sage may lead a good 4th quarter drive, but is he a good game manager all game? we don't know. what we do know is that everyone on the team has commented on how great of a field general Gus is.... so lets stick to the game plan.

Start gus vs the chargers

if he wins keep starting him

if we lose we are out of playoff contention, then we can see what sage can do

I am not one to change opinions often, but you raise a good point here. And Saban is the coach for a reason.

The problem is that, with all this talk about Sage's starting, I think some people forget that Frerotte was knocked out due to injury, and I think we have to appreciate the effect of one substitution at a position on the rest of the team.

If I were an NFL player, I wouldn't want to play for a coach who replaced me when I was playing fairly well just because I was injured in the line of duty. Replace me because I was ineffective, but don't replace me because I was injured. I think Saban would lose some guys on the team somewhat by making that substitution.

the last time people called for giving sage a shot, did he have 13 yards in cleveland?

he is a situational qb, and thats the end of it. he will be a great backup coming into games

gus is the man this year here, and that will not change.

Ya we all know Saban is the coach for a reason but what I'm really wondering is why we have Gus in the first place I mean seriously We've been switching QB's since Danny left and they never seem to get much better. We've been upgrading the rest of the team except for the most important part the QB. But hey I'm not the coach and who knows maybe Saban does have a plan.
