... New Orleans, which needed to sign linebackers Jay Foreman and Tommy Polley on Friday, may be giving some consideration to acquiring Chargers linebacker Donnie Edwards. Edwards played for Saints defensive coach Joe Vitt in Kansas City and Vitt has always been a big supporter of Edwards. The Chargers would like to trade Edwards and safety Hanik Milligan. The Saints and Chargers talked about players who were available on both rosters Monday, and Edwards' name came up prominently.

Also it has been rumored that Brees has been "recruiting" Edwards.

Damn, I was hoping they would release him so we could have a shot at him.
Well that would be a hell of a trade for the Saints.

Funny part is, earlier this year alot of people in this site were bashing the Saints saying that the team isn't going to be a contender nor competitive.

Looks to me like they are trying to build a winning team to challenge the Panthers, Falcons and Buccaneers for a shot to win the division.

Great news for that organization.

They still wont compete

Brees isnt a franchise QB, They dont have a secondary, and their D-Line is...decent but needs to live up to its potential, they dont have an O-line, and other than Joe Horn they dont have a WR, and Horn is another year older now

Brees is a damn good qb who will be more than ready before the season starts. Will Smith and Charles Grant are great Des but yeah we havbe a slight hole at DT. Jamal Brown,Faine, & Mayberry have all provened they are solid. Stallworth has been working on his hands and this could be his breakout year. Don't be surpised if the saints make a nice run this season.

Weren't the Saints shopping Stallworth. Or atleast I heard he is a possibility in a 3 team trade with the Broncos, and 49ers I believe. Saints get Lelie, 9ers get Stallworth, and I don't remember what the Broncos get.

Other than that i agree Brees is a very good QB IF he is able to return to full strength from his shoulder injury. things are looking good, but don't ever get to confident about any injury. ie look at Pennington. Alex, you know you would be singing Brees' praises had we signed him so i think it's fair to say he's a very good QB. I think it's great what the Saints are doing down there and they have to do it because their division doen't exactly contain a bunch of pushover teams. I hope that Brees is able to return to full force, the Saints might actually be an exciting team to watch in the next few years.

EDIT: I found that info on Stallworth.
[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif] Brett (LA): Jeremy, my boy. I heard a rumor regarding a three team trade involving Lelie and a Tight End. Do you know the tight end in question? It's strange because with Stephen Alexander and Tony Scheffler, not sure why tight end became such a NEED position for Denver.

Jeremy Green: (4:06 PM ET ) Hey Brett. There has been some buzz today about a three team trade involving Ashley Lelie, SF's Eric Johnson and the Saints Donte Stallworth. Lelie would go to New Orleans, Stallworth to the 49ers and Johnson to Denver. I think Denver is still just shaking the tree with teams to see what exactly they can get for Lelie.

I don't mind the saints, Iv always kinda liked them. But I think it will be a year or so. A new head coach, new QB off a big injury, a D that needs some work. Im not saying there are going to do bad, heck it would be hard to have a worse year than last year, but I don't see them taking a run. But you never know, Reggie might do what he has done in college the last few years and put up big numbers. Who knows

with the big deal they just gave him, it will be hard to get rid of him. Plus I think Bush will be used more as a WR outta the back field, and punt returner than RB. I think they will try to have both them on the field at the same time as much as possible. Very tuff for Ds. If that works, than I don't think either will go anywhere. Plus you have to remember that duce has been injured the last few seasons
