The Sam Madison situation has got me interested, mainly because I think the secondary is the weakest part of our entire team, and the prime culprit for most of our losses.
This little blurb from PFW suggests that we may be dumping Sam in the near future to help our salary cap situation (http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/The+Way+We+Hear+It/default.htm?mode=afceast).
A few days ago, the Palm Beach post (finheaven headlines) reported that Sam would be unwilling to take a pay cut, so it is unlikely we can convince him to restructure.

Sam never fit the mold of a Saban CB, since he isn't a great tackler, so he's on the chopping block. I can't imagine that any team will give us a draft pick for him if they know we'll probably cut him anyway.
If he goes, this almost certainly signals that we're interested in a CB on the first day (I for one have been a strong proponent of Jason Allen in the 3rd).

So the question is this, do you think it is a wise idea to
1) cut/trade Madison in the next few weeks (so we can pursue free agents),
2) later (try to convince him to restructure),
3) or just keep him for another year??

I haven't liked the way Sam has played for the last couple of seasons. While I'll admit he had a good career for us it seems like he has been getting burned an awful lot lately. I would take any draft pick a team offered (even a 7th rounder) and trade him.

keep him, I have a poster from about 4 years ago that says the Bermuda Triangle and it has Taylor Thomas and Madison on it, even though Surtain was better at the time it came out, but they had Madison on it and I want to keep that poster as relevant as possible.

He gave up 2 touchdowns this year...it was maybe Sam's best season in four years.

More Sam hate....what a shock.

Sam Madison played amazing this year. Yes, re-read, I said amazing. The guy covered better this year, then Surtain did last year. He was rarely (if ever) beat deep, and made a big plays, and shut down 1/2 the field (and if he worked on catching the ball, would of had about 5 INT).

Getting rid of Madison this year, is a mistake, IMO. If we can get a Nate Clements (long shot), or Allen from NY (nice cheap addition), I can see Sam being somewhat expendable. I want to keep him as of now. Whatever system Saban uses, Sam has learned a thing or two. He's worthwhile to keep, IMO.

EDIT: Unified- What's new? No one pays attention and lives in the past.

well its true hes not as ggod as he was once but he certainly improved as the season advanced he would defend more passes it looks like we should keep because ias he obviously got used to the defensive scheme of saban he got better at tackling he got more aggresive its true that at the beggining he diisapeared for a lot of the games he and travis are greatnow that they are both clicking knowing the scheme well give him one more season

Sam has to stay, what other CB of his caliber could we get for the same money that he makes?

None, but I think the logic would be to start Daniels and Poole, and get a younger guy to learn the ropes for a year. I guess it has to happen sometime

I personally think it is best to trade him away for a good draft pick or player. i like sam and always have but he has been slowed down tremendously the last few years. Im not hating on him, im just stating that he is not the same sam. And although he himself might have only "given up 2 touchdowns" this year... he also got his first interception in two years the third to the last game of the season! His tackle numbers decrease every year and honestly, i think he gave up more than just two or they were trying to take more advantage of Daniels and thats why Sam didnt have as many given up. He needs to go because we need to get younger and faster in that spot. When Will Poole comes back we might be set at the position other than picking up some vet depth. Just my opinion.....

:missmeth:

Keep sam one more year if we can afford him, We need experience and hopefully since he has been here a while he has chemistry with some of his teammates.

he should stay, i just wish that he didnt make the "i wont take a paycut comment". keep that stuff in house.

his tackling progressed through the year and he didnt give up many plays and like the previous poster, he didnt give up many TDs

I want to be clear when I say this, so I'm going to use caps lock.

WILL POOLE HAS NOT EVEN PLAYED. HE WAS A 4TH ROUND PICK, WHO WAS DRAFTED BY THE BRAINCHILD THAT IS WANNSTEDT AND SPIELMAN. CAN HE START AT CB? CAN HE EVEN PLAY CB? (hopefully better then all the other CB Wanny and Speilman drafted, because they all sucked)

I DON'T KNOW, AND NEITHER DO YOU. STOP BRINGING HIS NAME UP! UNTIL HE DRESSES IN A UNIFORM AND PLAYS A DOWN OF MEANINGFUL FOOTBALL, HE IS AN UNKNOWN, AND SHOULD BE ASSUMED AS A NON-FACTOR IN ALL FOOTBALL DECISIONS.

A 1-year deal, if it can be agreed to, would be the best way to go for the Dolphins. However, considering Sam's age, I am pretty sure that he is looking for a multi-year deal in order to be better covered (no pun intended) as his skills decline in the near future.

He's under contract now, it would be cut him or keep him for what we're already paying. There is no 1 year deal or new contract.
