Sammie Coates Entering the Draft

I would be very interested in us taking Coates. Green-Beckham makes a lot of sense for us, but I don't know enough about the risks of taking a guy like him. As well as having a huge ceiling, Coates to me is a competitor and we need more of those on the team. Interesting they mention blocking in the article. It's one of the things about Coates that appeals to me - he's not too much of a diva to roll his sleeves up and contribute for the team. Amari Cooper, by comparison, looks like he'd rather be stabbing himself in the eyeball with a pencil than blocking - for all his obvious talents.

D'haquille Williams is another really interesting kid. I'd think long and hard about drafting both, to be honest.

I agree completely with Fin Thirteen. Green-Beckham and Coates bring a dimension we need. Pair either one of them with Landry and reap the rewards.

This kid has the kind of physical abilities that this wr core sorely needs...he's raw...route running needs work...there's demarious Thomas long term potential here...high end physical abilities...will he figure it out???

There's risk for sure...

For a Landry clone with higher top end speed, Leonte Carroo of Rutgers is impressing me a lot. Kid is teak tough, amazing hands, not a body catcher, gets routine separation. Similar vision and running style to Landry in many respects - won't juke you out of your socks but has deceptively effective change of direction. Listed at 6'1", I'd guess he was more like 6 dead, but he's athletic and very powerful, can get up there and contest with the best of em.

Hasn't a huge body of work to show off but he was very impressive this year. Looks like a solid #3 receiver at the least.

I don't know about that. He's a much more raw player and Auburn is the land of single digit Wonderlic scores...not the smartest players in the game. In some ways he reminds me of Cordarrelle Patterson as far as raw physical ability but far, far from polished. Patterson was also rumored to be dumb as rocks and here he is 2 seasons into the NFL and still not able to run good routes or read defenses. Dolphins need to be smart about this and not just jump on the first WR that presents the tangibles we need.

physically i think they are similar and thomas couldn't run but like 3 routes coming out of ga tech...i doubt this kid can either...looks about 6 ft 2 220 lbs or so...i dont disagree the risk here is heavy but miami needs a true alpha and it has to be a consideration...you wont find the kind of alpha miami needs in the average athlete aisle

You remember when I we were on Scout.com's board and I was all over Demaryius Thomas...I loved that kid coming out of Georgia Tech...I'm much more apprehensive about Coates.

To me it's like this:
#1 - Amari Cooper
#2 - DeVante Parker
#3 - Kevin White

All 3 of the WRs above catch the ball away from the body and use their hands...all 3 have large hands and large catch radius.

#4 Jaelen Strong

I like Strong but maybe not as much as some others around here. He's not on the same level as the other 3 IMO.

#5 Dorial Green-Beckham
#6 Sammie Coates

Those two are about the same...lots of potential but not nearly as polished as the first 4.

yes i do remember and i didnt like thomas cause i thought he was too raw...they barely threw the ball at ga tech...not enough body of work...parkers frame and red zone win is nice but he lets the ball get into his body a lot...green beckham i dont see any long speed there and he's got skeletons in the closet

i'm gonna study these guys intensely after the season so you know this should be all taken with a grain of salt...just my initial limited looks thoughts

when i do study these big wrs i will be looking for separation in and out of cuts and burst...i dont need 4.4 but i cant have a guy that at the next level is gonna wear coverage like drapes...and with big wrs that's a serious no go for me...you can't separate pass

tons of bust big wrs cause they can't separate...fluidity of hips is big also...so many stiff big guys

i think the thought right now has to be highest rated big wr on the board with the first pick for us...you wait they will be gone...of course if it's picked clean you do something else but with guys like olomu and the ga rb going down with serious injuries and no real 2nd tier of qbs to influence high 2nd round picks you are gonna see position talent go off real damn quick in the top 50...which means a mike lb you have targeted in the 75 range you may have to jump on sooner...

from what i see right now assuming the board has it big physical wr in round 1 and mike lb in round 2 is where my hopes would be...get them both in the top 50...i think thats where the value lies anyways where we will be selecting range in this class

but if the mikes go out and run slow as hell then that changes...what they run will be very important as to the value although i'm sure there will be a lot of overdrafting in this class relative to others for the talent level...if no qbs emerge for 2nd round targets or trade up possibilities into late round 1 then position talent is gonna fly off

I don't see much of that in Green-Beckham's game. At least not in the limited stuff out there from when he played at Missouri. I also don't see much burst from Jaelen Strong.

My one big WR sleeper pick is Dezmin Lewis from Central Arkansas. I'll be interested to see what he runs the 40 in but he's pretty fluid for a 6'4" 212 lbs WR.

A lot of big receivers this year. You don't have to go,early to get a big guy with a catch radius and a certain amount of speed. Some late rounders I like are DeAndre Smelter, Vincent Mayle and Alonzo Russell. Not saying they'll be All Pro but they could all be useful possession/redzone guys.
