Well, hello once again and welcome to another week of football! As we all know, Miami had a bye week this week and is currently preparing to stomp the Bills this upcoming Sunday. However, this column is all about the past weekend of football, and since Miami did have a bye, this column will be about all the other games. You see, I have NFL Sunday Ticket and spend my sundays BBQing and watching football until about 9 p.m. PDT. So lets get to the random thoughts and questions shall we?
-Kickoff is at 10 a.m. here on the West coast for the early games. When the fins aren't playing, I generally flip from game to game, trying to watch exciting action. To start off, I decided to watch the Colts-Titans opening drive. I figured if Manning had the ball, there would be some action. He didn't disapoint. A few minutes later, Indy was leading 7-0. I never went back to this game, and for good reason. Indy ended up winning like 1 billion to 10 or something like that.
-I then switched to the Bills-Saints game. I figured I should keep tabs on our division rivals and I wanted to see the Alamodome football version for the Saints. It looked bad on TV. To me, it looked like the broadcast was from the 80's. It was dark and very cavernous. At least, that is how I saw it on my TV. Si I watched as JP threw an interception and Carney kicked 58 field goals. I then realized how boring this game was and how I was screwing up watching a NON HD football game when I have the Superfan package. I quickly left the channel at halftime, never to return.
-I did flip between the Saints game and Patriots game for awhile in the first half. I meant to watch more of the Chargers-Patriots matchup in the second half because the first half was a lot of fun. Tons of back and forth/lead changes/shifts in momentum. However, San Diego put the stamp on them in the second half. That LT guy is pretty good I think.
-Anyone else catch Eli getting slapped? The DE for the Rams runs in, Eli tries to run past ihm, the DE just winds up slapping Eli so hard on the side of the helmet that it spun the helmet sideways. So Eli is running for his life and trying to fix his helmet so he can see where he is running. It was hilarious. Penalty flags were everywhere and I expected a personal foul. Howeve,r they called holding on Petitgout, who was blocking the guy who smacked Manning! It was great. Coughlin about flipped his lid on that call.
-Realizing I needed more HD goodness, I switched to the Lions-Bucs game. I switched just in time to see a light rain come down...in HD. I think I drooled all over the couch. It looked incredible. BTW, the Lions got screwed at the end. Pollard had possesion and was in bounds for the TD. Trust me, I have TIVO and slowed the play down to fram by frame. Tampa is lucky to be undefeated right now.
-Washington is lucky too. Anyone else see the Seahawks kicked doink the game winning field goal off the left upright with time expired? You knew when that happened that the Redskins would win in overtime. It never fails. ( see: Mare vs Pats 2003 )
-I left the Eagles game thinking they would get blown out. I saw the game later and realized I missed a great game.
-It was good to see the Raiders win for once. I think if Bledsoe would have completed that pass to Glenn at the end, the fans may have rioted. They had that look in their eye.
-How bizarre was the Sunday Night game. Anyone se Ed Hochuli say some of the penalties in spanish. I was wondering why they didn't do all of them that way. Seriously, I wonder if more than 25% of the stadium understands holding, number 66, offense, 10 yard penalty, repeat third down.
-By the way, the Cardinals were horrid in the first half. How the Niners lost that game is beyond me.
Feel free to add your own observations from gameday! Be sure to look for the keys to victory coming sometime on Wednesday of this week.
